Does Android have a built in VPN?

I'm looking at getting android phone. One of the things I want is to use a VPN and be able to access all my web sites via the VPN connection.

If not, does anyone know of a good VPN program that can be used on a phone? We have a VPN for the PC, but I'm looking for something that will work on the phone. I like having a VPN running, and this would be perfect for it. Thanks for any suggestions.

You'll have to look at the apps you want to use to see if they have VPN support. If it's built into Android's OS, it may be part of a preinstalled app, or it may be something you have to download and install.

A good VPN for use on Android devices is TunnelBear, but there are others too. See what apps work best with the device you buy.

That's really the only way to do this at the moment. There's no OS/apps you can use, but you can configure some specific apps and it should work.

I can't remember exactly what Google's VPN is called. There was a recent article here in PC Advisor that said that Google offers "some kind of" VPN, but it's not easy to find because there are so many other articles about it that I had to search.

Google has a VPN for Chrome but they've stopped supporting it. Other than that it's the same as any other app - you have to configure it how you want. If you want a better VPN than the default app, you'd need to go the route you're on now.

The VPN for android is called "tunnelbear". You can find it in the market place. It's free so there's no need to get your pockets out!

I would recommend an unlocked SIM-free model. That way you don't need to buy a local data package (so you don't need to consider the data allowance, etc.). And you won't need to activate a local SIM. But if you do activate one, make sure you check the terms of the data plan carefully, as it is very unlikely that they'll allow you unlimited use of their network, just in case they charge you for exceeding the data cap (or you could be cut off if you go over).
