What is DNS and TLD?
While we don't recommend you set up DNS services (like Google, Amazon and CloudFlare), it's still useful to know what they are. The Domain Name System (DNS) is the Internet infrastructure that allows computer users to connect with other computers and websites on the Internet. The TLD (Top Level Domain) is the top level of the DNS (or Domain Name System) which is the top level domains like .com, .org, .uk, .info, .tv, etc. And the suffix .net which means the Internet Network Service Provider for that domain name and it includes the DNS servers for that TLD.
DNS allows the connection between computers on the Internet and web servers and the way it is set up is dependent on what DNS server you choose to use. By using a DNS service, you can have your web server always be available, your web site load faster and you can have better security by filtering out bad websites.
A good place to start is to create a DNS account on Bluehost (DNS is free when you use our services). DNS is a crucial part of a website. You should always set up your own DNS account on Bluehost even if you're not using our services.
DNS Tutorial. Configure DNS. You can configure a DNS account on the fly in cPanel or you can login and click on My DNS and you'll see a list of nameservers you can use. You can choose the option of DNS only if you want your site to work without having a DNS account or you can pick a hosting company from our list of DNS providers.
Setting up a domain name is simple, you just need to add it to the list of available domain names in cPanel and your domain will be pointing to that server. In your cPanel, click on My Domain, and on the right, click on Nameservers and then Add Nameserver. Choose Add Nameserver from the dropdown menu, and the nameserver we've chosen for you will appear. Make sure the nameserver you select has a green checkmark and then click on Next.

chris11. These are really just marketing terms. From your linked page on the definition: "A domain name is a sequence of characters that identifies your. Webpage." Which means that they are like URLs, which would make the first type a hostname, the second a URL, and the third a hostname and URL." I think that's meant to refer to the way that some web servers (cName.example.com) can have many IP addresses
(2001:db8:5aa::1-2001:db8:5aa::9999), but the concept is still accurate. I don't see the third type in the page, but you could say that a single DNS. Record for a website has the three components:
example.com A record for the address.
Which makes sense from the way that a URL looks.com server. They wouldn't get
An "address for example.com". I'm not entirely sure what the fourth type
Would be though, but I think that I'd call it a file name because it refers to. A specific resource, like an image file or a style sheet. Thanks for the response. What you said made perfect sense.
