Is scraping Zillow legal?

Is web scraping ever illegal?

If you've ever heard of a software developer using a tool to scrape data from a website and then store it for future use, you might have assumed that the developer was doing something illegal.

After all, if someone else has created a website, why can't they provide it to you? Why should you have to pay for the privilege? Why should they want to steal your data when they could just offer it for free? The reality is that there are some sites that make it illegal for you to use a browser's built-in web scraping tools to access their site's content. Many of these sites don't even realize that you're there and some of them actively try to stop you.

That said, there are many legal ways of accessing content from these sites. While some sites will let you know how you can access their content without paying, others will give you a password and a login and expect you to not tell anyone what you did. Some sites do this because they are trying to make more money off of their content by offering a paid subscription service. Others do it because they don't like how they're being treated by the software developer that built the site they were using.

Regardless, there are a lot of reasons why web scraping is useful, and we've collected a few of those reasons below. Why is web scraping useful? It's a quick way to find content. Using a tool like ScraperWiki to search a particular topic is very time consuming. You might have to search for a page on a website, search for that page's URL, search for that URL on Google, and then finally type the URL into ScraperWiki.e. While this might be the best method, it's also a lot of work.

Web scraping makes this entire process much easier and faster. If you know the URL of a page that contains information you're interested in, simply type that into ScraperWiki and click Search. In just a few seconds, you'll have a list of all the pages from that website that contain the information you're looking for. From there, it's just a matter of searching through those pages to find the information you're looking for.

Is scraping Zillow legal?

The answer is a definitive yes.

The IRS has not taken a position on whether or not you need a CPA to prepare a Schedule K-1 for self-employed people. The IRS does require that any capital gains or losses claimed on the Schedule K-1 be based on information provided by a qualified tax return preparer (such as a CPA) but only for income realized in taxable years beginning after August 17, 1984. Self-employed individuals are required to report their income and deductions from a Schedule C. You would file your tax return using the W-2 and 1099 and report your business income and loss to the IRS on your personal federal income tax return. You should get a copy of this return (IRS Form 1040) and review the return with your accountant before filing.00 in commission per sale for home sales that happen on the site, is this legal?

There are a number of different methods used to monetize the Zillow website. Some methods include displaying advertisements and listing home sites. All of these methods are available to all Zillow users.

Home selling on Zillow is completely passive, you may wish to consult with a tax professional regarding its tax consequences to you. Why do the numbers in my Zestimate or Market Update look so low? For the past several years, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) has taken the actual selling prices from the most recent home sale and applied them to the Zestimate home value (the Zestimate values properties using what the sellers and agents feel will likely be the selling price at time of sale). Then, NAR calculates an average national selling price for each day, week, month, etc. It gives an average selling price in the middle of the month and uses it as a baseline. It then takes a small portion of sales and compares them with the average. A higher percentage indicates the market is stronger than average and vice versa. This creates a benchmark each month against which you can see how well you did. At the end of the year, it creates a weighted average for your home.

What happened to hiQ Labs?

HiQ Labs, the maker of the HiQ headset, has been shuttered.

Last week, CEO and co-founder James MacCurdy told us that his company had begun investigating the possibility of a future partnership with Microsoft. Now it seems like the company has moved away from creating its own technology and is now working on a technology that would be brought to market by Microsoft.4 million in funding in March 2025. The founders were MacCurdy, an MIT graduate who served as CTO, and co-founder Matt McKeon.

On April 4, we wrote a story called HiQ Labs is bringing head-mounted VR to the masses, but Microsoft may buy the company. It said: HiQ Labs has been working on a new way of building VR headsets since 2025, but the team was not sure if it would be able to raise the money or find investors needed to make the product happen. After a long period of planning, the founders say they believe they have found the right partners to get the tech out to consumers. 'We have been looking for a partner for two years, and finally, we found one that is just perfect for us,' says HiQ Labs co-founder Matt McKeon. There are three companies that we want to work with. We need a software company. We need a hardware company. And then we need a company that is a part of both of those that will work with us.'

However, we later heard from several sources that Microsoft had recently purchased the company. HiQ Labs has been a mystery since we first wrote about the company last week. In the past few days, however, a lot more information has become available.

HiQ Labs was located in Santa Monica, California. Its founding team consisted of McKeon, MacCurdy, Chris Schlarb, who worked at Sony, and Steve Gugleman, who was an investor in HiQ Labs.

HiQ Labs has a relationship with Microsoft. A Microsoft representative responded to my request for comment on April 3, saying: I can't confirm or deny anything at this point.
