Can I put Netflix on a non smart TV?

That's why I used the phrase "if at all possible". Obviously this isn't an either-or proposition, because if your TV has an HDMI output, the TV can do it. It just wouldn't be possible to get the app to work without running an Android TV box, and I haven't found a commercial one that works with Netflix that's compatible with other apps in Google Play. That said, it may be worthwhile to figure out if that's an option before assuming you can't.99/month for the Nexus Player standalone box without running a TV and without being connected to an internet connection? If so, that might be another thing you could try. If it's available again, and doesn't require an internet connection, that would be the way to go.

I did see something about it. They showed how it would work from what I gathered. If I understand what you are saying correctly.

The device would have to be plugged into a TV that has Netflix and have Netflix be running. Then once connected to a Wi-Fi the device would start up the service and you would then see the content through the HDMI port.

That's the best I can understand it from the video. I did notice some things I thought were interesting.

First of all while they had the video feed showing it was a Roku that was playing the content. They could make that happen with a device like a Shield or a Chromecast and just have that run the web version of netflix. As for the phone in the video it looked like there was two phones running on the Nexus and I would assume if you bought the 2 phone special you could get one in there. But I couldn't tell for sure from what I saw. Yes, in Google's own words, which is what you're likely citing, it can operate with a Roku 4, etc.
