How do I turn off proxy?

doug16k: see what "lscpi -nn or just open up /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look whats there. Is the driver blacklisted or not loaded?
(and if that driver is blacklisted then it should never get to the end of a boot). jnxd: if you also want apache to behave this way, you can add a similar line to /etc/environment. k1l, vblank: Driver claimed to not support vblank (try removing '"vblankdisable=1' from serverflags.h in your OSD driver) driver vendor: S3 Inc. With ID 0x001c6e2a doug16k: does it work if you start chrome from terminal? this would only affect chromium, not opera/ff/google-chrome which are all chromium apps. same output as above. same issue with opera, chromium, ff, and google-chrome. all of a sudden on startup all three chromium processes will be killed all of a sudden.

You need the "direct" way of removing proxy, this is the easiest method: How to Unproxy a URL in Ubuntu 14.04? If your proxy settings in ~/.bashrc If there's an entry for proxyuser and proxypass in there, that explains it. If not, you'll need to set up the proxy details manually in the .bashrc (as mentioned above).
Edit. In case someone wants to use the built-in terminal proxy feature that's now available on ubuntu 16.
