When Netflix started, it was a great idea, but today it's really something else. There are more choices than ever, and more streaming services than we can keep track of. Plus, as technology gets more advanced, all the different apps and devices keep getting better. Is there an app for that?
So which is the best way to watch Netflix? To find out, TechRepublic talked to people on the front lines of streaming media, including two of the cofounders of Roku, a company that makes streaming boxes, as well as several Netflix employees. Why should we be looking at any one platform rather than just going with Netflix? You've got to be mindful of your content, said David Hyman, chief operating officer at Roku. So you have to go where you can get it. That means that if you want to have a full set of movies and TV shows available for everyone, it's important to be able to offer them on all the platforms that you can.
The big thing that's changed in the past decade is that streaming services and device makers are more than happy to partner up, and many are making the apps and services available on each other's platforms. That allows people to sign up with a Netflix account and start watching right away on an Apple TV or a Samsung TV. And not just any TV it has to be a device from Roku or Fire TV or Chromecast.
Why are so many streaming services popping up now? Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu have been around for a long time. They are used by millions of people, and they are very good at what they do. And when they had first introduced streaming media, they were really the standard. But over the years, some people started feeling that there wasn't enough to watch, that they wanted to watch something else.
A few years ago, Hulu started to release their own original programming, and Amazon began making original content. Then about six or seven years ago, Netflix started to make more original content. So the market started to shift, and those services were able to compete more effectively.
That made it increasingly important to differentiate yourself and differentiate your content, said Hyman.
What is the site for watching Netflix movies?

When you click on a movie that has been paid for, a window opens. If it says that you have an option to download the video, then you need to wait until you receive the email telling you when to download the video.
I have had one issue with downloading videos through Netflix where a file was corrupted and I couldn't play the video at all, even though I'd downloaded it. A quick Google search for "Netflix file corrupted" would have helped.
That's not what this post is about. If you want to download a video, click on a movie icon on the Netflix homepage. If it says "Can't download" it probably means that the movie is out of your region. When you click on the name of the movie, you should be able to choose the region in which you want to view the movie.
The purpose of the site for watching movies is to be able to watch them anywhere at any time that you want. You can also order the DVD and it will be delivered to you via US mail.
If you use Netflix, you're using the DVD service. The DVDs come to you. You never have to visit Netflix's site.
In order to watch something at Netflix, you have to click on the movie or TV show you want to watch. If the item is rented, you'll get a notice from Netflix telling you to come over to their site to finish the rental process. If you click on the movie, you'll find a screen saying "can't download", this usually means that the movie is only available in your region.
If the movie is in a different region, then you can click on the region and then click on a place that you want to watch the movie. Netflix will show you a list of movies in that region.
You'll get a message saying that you can either download the movie, rent the movie, or do something else. Most people are unaware of the fact that Netflix is not really about watching TV shows.
