How do I fix a firewall may be blocking Spotify?
This question came up last month for me, while talking with a client about the potential for security issues if employees had internet access on phones (vs laptops and desktop computers). The concern for him was that if someone in the organization accessed his employees accounts or downloaded something inappropriate, they might also be able to access another employee's Spotify account.
How does Spotify use access rights to identify, by username, which of its users has access to what music, which can allow it to be a very effective method for detecting any attempts to download other artists' music or content from your own. In addition, even if there were only 1 user account, if there was evidence someone on the Internet accessed one of his employee's Spotify streams it could identify the employee that was the culprit because he or she would have likely played the songs he or she had been streaming.
If I understand correctly, you're not worried about Spotify's users gaining access to your business' Spotify account, but rather that one of your employees who is an official Spotify customer/owner may have inadvertently given it access to her Spotify account - whereupon it'll be able to log in as that user via the OAuth protocol, which will make her Spotify activity available to them. With such permissions, which one employee can see which others can access what? Answer: They can't. Spotify's permission is for itself; they don't check to make sure you've got the right to see everyones' activities.
So this doesn't work in the way you think it does. If your organization needs to monitor Spotify activity for some nefarious reason - ie if it's a company policy - then it's not Spotify's problem. There's no issue with employee misuse of Spotify accounts, per se. Instead there are security and policy problems with your organization, and whether Spotify helps you figure out why/whether this exists.
Spotify allows you to choose who can view their player. Each user can select the users they want to add. For the most part you'll just choose 'everyone' from the drop down. You can limit certain kinds of usage or just limit it to one or two people.
