It is possible that if your device does not support the protocol, Opera will fall back to the IP address of the internet service provider (ISP) that the device connected to at the time the request was made. The Opera VPN client has been tested on a variety of devices and configurations and we have found no adverse impact on downloads.

If you are a premium user, we also recommend enabling a feature that limits the number of simultaneous connections to one. This ensures that users don't start taking advantage of all the bandwidth they paid for at the same time.

However, when you enable this feature, you may experience some buffering during playback. To maximize the benefit of this feature, you should have an unlimited data plan from your ISP.

It is also possible that your connection will be terminated if you exceed your monthly data allowance. You can check your current download and upload speeds by opening Opera Speedtest. You can also check if your upload or download speed is throttled by opening Speedtest from the Opera VPN section of Opera. How do I buy VPN? Is Opera VPN no longer free?

For those who are wondering what happened to Opera VPN, the company has been charging for the service since late August.

That's right, this time last year, Opera announced that they would be discontinuing the service that's been giving us VPN access at the browser level. But now they've decided to give users two months to use the service before dropping it altogether.

Opera VPN was a great idea, and as a VPN provider, we're saddened to see it go, but we're happy that it's going to live on in some form. What Happened to Opera VPN? There are a few theories as to what happened. Some say that Opera wanted to focus on their apps rather than a browser based VPN, others believe that Opera wanted to get Opera Mini into more people's hands, which it's doing with their free service, and still others believe that the company simply realized that Opera VPN was being used less than they hoped.

One thing's for sure, though: people are still using Opera VPN, so the company decided to come up with a deal where they'd let users use the service for two more months. If you've had your subscription to the Opera VPN service cancelled, you'll get a two month extension to the end of your subscription. For those with active subscriptions, you'll get a 30-day extension.

What Happens After the Two Months? We don't know yet, but we do know that Opera is planning to continue the free Opera Mini service that it first announced back in May. But we're also assuming that the Opera VPN service will be making a return at some point in the future.

It might be one that's built into the new browser they're working on, or it might be an extension that's built into Opera's new browser. All we know for sure is that it's coming, and we're looking forward to seeing it.

What do you think about Opera's decision to offer two months to users who were using the free VPN service? Do you feel like you were getting good value out of Opera VPN, or was it something you were just using as an experiment?
