Why does ExpressVPN block internet?
One of the most common questions that we get asked is ? Well, I will give you a better answer than I get asked. And why ExpressVPN blocks internet? Because it makes business sense. And they do it because it makes sense and it's very easy to do. That's why. Because if you want to stop people accessing the Internet when they're out of your office, you put a firewall at the edge of the network, a firewall which you can control. The same is true for any other service, for example, if you are a small business owner, and you're on the Internet all day, and you've got an office in another country, and then you go out to work, and you don't have an Internet connection there, you're going to struggle to get work done. What ExpressVPN does is it blocks that Internet traffic and routes it to your office. When you go back to your office, it releases that traffic so that your work can be done. This way, you don't have to have your employees or yourself log in to your VPN server. You don't have to install anything. All you need to do is open the browser that you're using, log in to your ExpressVPN account, and you can begin working immediately. Does ExpressVPN keep logs? Yes, it does keep logs. However, it keeps them for security purposes. If you really wanted to know about the types of traffic that's going through your Internet connection, you could always look at your logs. But the reality is that if you want to know about the types of traffic that is going through your Internet connection, the easiest way to do it is to put a firewall between your Internet connection and your computer. And the easiest way to do that is to use ExpressVPN. And it doesn't keep any logs. It only keeps logs for security purposes. Is ExpressVPN available to everyone? It depends on what you mean by 'everyone.' For a free trial, ExpressVPN is available to anyone in any country around the world.
Why can't i access a site even with VPN?
I'm trying to get a site like bitbucket working with vpn. My router and server have vpn capability. When I use it to tunnel to a site like bitbucket, I can reach the site without a problem. If I tunnel to another site, for example google.com, I can't access that site at all. I've tried it on both my desktop (raspberry pi) and my laptop. What could be causing this?
VPNs are only secure if both ends are using strong crypto and authentication. Typically you'd set up VPN between your client and your router, and then configure your router to do a "full mesh" (or whatever term it uses) VPN with other devices on the network. That means that the traffic gets encrypted on the physical connection between your client and your router, and then it is encrypted again by the VPN between your router and the rest of the network. It also means that each of those steps has to be secure, otherwise your traffic is completely unencrypted and there is nothing stopping someone from sniffing it off the wire.
Some VPN services (like openvpn) will let you configure a "remote" client, but I don't know if the routers in your home support that. If you were using an openvpn remote client, you would need to tell it to connect to your router as well as any others in your "mesh".
The other option is a "single hop" VPN, which puts the router into the middle of the whole thing and makes it the central point where all traffic comes and goes. If your router supports this, you could configure it to act as your VPN. The downside is that your router needs to have decent security, or it will become a gateway for anyone on your network who manages to get a foothold.

For now there are a couple of solutions we can offer you: Try another VPN provider that has our VPN hosted by them. We will post links on our blog shortly.
