Since you are trying to connect to one of your dad's servers, you have already bypassed the first obstacle: being able to reach it from the internet. In fact, the internet is made to be able to access everything on the planet, right? If you are on the same network as the server, you can use the ip address directly, without the need to ask anybody else for help.

As for the internet, it is a very large place and you can't predict where your dad's server is hosted and what type of connection it is running on. Depending on where it is hosted, it might not even have an external IP address and therefore you'll never be able to find it by searching. I would strongly advise you to use a VPN instead, this way you won't need to bother asking anyone for help anymore. If you do this, you will have much more control over what is being forwarded to you. There are also several free services that you can use to search the internet. It is usually more effective than searching your own company's data center. Another thing you can do is try to get to know the different methods that your dad's server uses to communicate, and then reverse-engineer them. When the server receives a request for a page, it does a DNS lookup and if the name matches the hostname it has been programmed to check, it will reply. You can use these hostname, along with the HTTP headers, to figure out the server's IP address.
