Is Mullvad blocked in China?

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to see their site in China but it's been impossible. I've tried both google and baidu with the same result. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you for your fast reply. I do try the IPs you send and they work. It is just the country/city filtering. I do try different search engine like google and baidu also. I'm living in China too but not in Shenzhen, Shanghai.e. If you are near Sianhwei you can check in the Chinese city which is not available there.

Hi Thomas and other people who asked about Mullvad. I'm on the Mullvad team and we're very sorry that we had problems with China. Unfortunately, we know nothing about the reasons behind the blockage. If we find anything out we'll definitely let you know. If you want to find out about the blockage yourself, you can just do a search on the Google.com. I can confirm that Mullvad works fine for me in all countries around the world and has been working perfectly until very recently. (That is why we're asking about the reasons for the blockage).

Is there a better VPN than Nord?

I'm already paying for a premium tier plan.

I want to change my current provider and am considering Nord VPN. I read some complaints about the site/ service, but most reviews show only negatives. However, most of these people have an account with a premium tier I'm considering switching to.

Don't bother trying to protect your own privacy if you think you'll get a different outcome from someone else's actions. NordVPN is trying to do the right thing. You're just upset that you couldn't get in on the early rounds. Go on to another, cheaper and better VPN. Do this for all VPN services. Eventually they'll all merge. It's inevitable.

It may seem like the same people are trying to do this exact thing, but each vpn service is doing it their own way. Some have better speed than others. So you can't really say for certain if it's the same. Nord has been around for a long time, and has quite a following, which makes me a little wary of the company's motives.

You'll get very few answers here but I'll try anyway. The company was formed in 2023 as a new competitor in the world of VPNs. The co-founder was inspired to create a new service because he found other large VPN providers not living up to their promises and were using his money with ease.

David, thanks for being so kind to answer our questions about the recent developments that have been taking place with the company. As you've probably seen, we have put together an extensive article and we would love for you to share your thoughts. Before we start talking about the future of Mullvad, could you tell us what you think of the current state of things?

The best way to understand what's going on right now is to read our interview with David Nylgens, our CEO. You'll see that we're actually quite happy with where Mullvad is today, even though there are quite a few challenges ahead of us. We actually launched our biggest update in 3 years with version 6.0. We believe it is a great milestone that gives more features and improvements that we've been thinking about since the very start.

What do you think of the current state of affairs in the VPN market and what are the threats that the companies currently face? Do you feel like they're able to maintain the same level of service they provided at the very start? In some ways, the market has developed rapidly since we started offering VPN services. The VPN market has exploded, partly because there was no such thing as a consumer VPN service when we first launched back in 2023. To offer a VPN service at that time, you needed a dedicated server infrastructure. Then came VPN brokers who bought the cheapest VPN servers on the market, so we then had to buy VPN servers from them. There was no other way. So it got expensive, and people began using VPN services for free. And with the popularity of those services grew. They weren't really VPN services any more. Most of them were quite shady, but there was no other way to get free VPNs at that time.

Our approach has always been that we're simply making the best VPN possible, without making any money out of it. It costs us a lot of money to provide this service, so we want to make sure we can provide an excellent service to everyone.

NordVPN vs Mullvad: which one is better?

NordVPN has had a bit of a rough ride lately. While they've been making good moves (finally offering a Linux client!), they've also been under scrutiny for their use of questionable VPN providers. In this post we'll compare NordVPN vs Mullvad in the three key areas of security, privacy, and availability. We'll look at each of these with focus on their offerings for the recent past and ongoing.

Security and Privacy. There have been some valid concerns about Mullvad in the past, in particular around the use of OpenVPN in conjunction with IKEv2 rather than OpenVPN. IKEv2 is the most secure and efficient way to use an encrypted connection between a client and VPN provider. While no one has ever demonstrated that NordVPN is the culprit of any actual breaches on their network, they do allow some pretty interesting practices (like using third party VPN servers, which could mean trouble down the line).

However, they don't offer a static IP address (you need to pay a little extra for a dynamic one), nor do they offer any Unlimited devices features.

These concerns are mostly focused on their use of third party VPN providers, and not directly on OpenVPN itself (which you can see has not been the source of any breach or issue). Mullvad, however, explicitly allows their clients to use OpenVPN and still maintain their security posture by using multiple layers of security that they say protect against attacks, and not just one weak link (a weakness that also exists in any VPN app when it comes to protecting against attacks).

However, security is, of course, one area where we won't be able to do any direct comparisons. Both apps are relatively easy to use, and do a reasonably decent job offering their customers a certain degree of security and privacy.

Is Mullvad blocked by Netflix?

Netflix's decision to block Mullvad has become one of the biggest stories in the VPN industry. The reason behind Netflix's blocking of Mullvad is not clear at all, but some think that Netflix's decision is in fact an attempt to block the use of VPNs and Tor by their subscribers, since they are blocked in many countries.

So what is Netflix doing? You may have heard that Netflix is blocking all VPNs and Tor, and this is not true. Instead, they are blocking a specific type of VPN called IPv6-only, which is quite different from a regular VPN service, and they are not blocking Tor at all.

In order to be able to watch Netflix without VPNs or Tor, you need to use a device that supports IPv6 natively, and most people don't have it. If you don't know what IPv6 is, you can read about it on Wikipedia: IPv6 is the latest version of Internet Protocol (IP). IPv6 offers several advantages over the previous version, including superior security and performance. This includes the fact that IPv6 allows for a much larger address space than IPv4, allowing for greater capacity and more efficient routing. It also allows for higher throughput by transmitting data in packets of 128 bits instead of 4 bytes. But since most people don't use IPv6 natively, it doesn't really matter how good IPv6 is, because none of them have it.

When Netflix started blocking VPNs, people were quick to blame Netflix for the problem. After all, if you have a Netflix account, you're probably already signed in to your Netflix account through a VPN or Tor.

The truth is that Mullvad was the first to get flagged as a VPN, and they had already been flagging IPv6-only VPNs since 2023. However, the problem seems to have started around the end of 2023, and since then Mullvad has been getting flagged more and more often.

According to Mullvad's statistics, as of January 20, 2023, only about 20% of the traffic from their users is IPv6-only. What is IPv6-only VPN? An IPv6-only VPN is one that uses IPv6 protocol to connect to Netflix.

Is Mullvad better than ExpressVPN?

Mullvad is one of the most popular free VPN services in the world. Many users enjoy its easy-to-use interface, as well as free lifetime access.
