With the recent growth of online fraud and internet child pornography, this tool helps law enforcement trace crimes committed against you from the location of your computer to the location of a specific device associated with your IP address. For instance, if a criminal posts obscene images of your niece to a site on the internet, the tool may be able to help police find that specific IP address. In this case, it would be easy to trace the illegal activity to your physical address. For example, it is not unreasonable to infer that the user of a certain IP address was the perpetrator of a certain crime.

This program uses a database of over 7 million IP addresses for over 500,000 known sites that contain child pornography and provides a list of matching sites along with the device that was used. IP Geolocation is offered in conjunction with the My Child Safety program provided by Internet security firm McAfee (www.mcafee.com/us/security/mychildsafety).

Are there any legal limitations to use of this information? When using this program, all information that we get from your IP address will be shared only with the appropriate law enforcement agencies so that they may trace the crime to the precise computer device or IP address from which the material was uploaded or received. This is required by law.

The user has permission to contact his ISP or other party in order to obtain the IP address. Also, you have been advised to contact your ISP if there is a problem with the service.

Are there any fees involved with use of the service? No. The product includes a 30 day unlimited free trial so there is no cost for a test program.

Why might I be having trouble finding a specific site using the information from the software? Some people receive an IP address from their internet service provider and this information shows where the site's server is located. The server's geographic location varies depending on whether the server is one continent or another. The server is usually either in the U. Or Canada. In this case, one can easily find the server location by entering the website name that comes up into Google, Bing or other search engine.

How will I know if my IP address is hacked?

What's the point of hacking if my email is just going to get forwarded or forwarded via a forwarding service?

If the goal was to spam me or send something back-channel, why would they need to get through this step? It sounds like it could be a hassle to determine if someone is trying to get through this firewall. That aside, they don't need my IP address for that purpose. This post goes beyond simple hacking to more involved efforts. It covers a couple ways an attacker might try to get past these restrictions. At the end, you will know how to deal with these types of attacks.

The attacker might use your email account or an attachment to get through this firewall. My own SMTP client logs when I get errors. On Windows, the logs are in C:UsersmeAppDataRoamingMozillaMozillaCore etworkeventlog.dat and on Linux it's in /var/spool/mail/me You should always go through each line. These errors are logged when your SMTP connection fails with any reason. The error could be a failed login attempt, a timeout, invalid parameters or anything along those lines. The logs will tell you exactly which reason your connection died.

In particular, look for the word TLS in there. When I get an error, I don't just say My SMTP client died I go into more detail.
