What are the disadvantages of hiding IP addresses?

Is it good to hide your IP address?

From our own server logs we can see that in the last two days over 5,000 unique users visited our website.

We also know a list of all the visitors to our website since it is a self-hosted blog. How do we get that information? Well, we just used a software called Httpwatch. What makes Httpwatch useful is that it gives us a log of the visits to our website and, as you might have guessed, the IP address of each visitor. So if someone knows what your IP address is they can easily determine if you are the owner of a particular website. And by hiding that you're the owner of a particular website they can send you spam or other undesirable content. For that reason we think it's probably not good to hide your IP address. Let's take a look at how to hide your IP address and how to remove IP hiding.

How to Hiding your IP address? If you're going to hide your IP address, you need to do that on your own. There is a service called AnonymousProxy that can do exactly that. It lets you define how long your IP address should be hidden and hides it from various different websites. So if you use this service, nobody will know your true IP address. So if you just want to hide your IP address for a while, AnonymousProxy is probably not a service for you. But if you're looking for a more permanent solution, there are plenty of other ways to hide your IP address. You could set up a new email account or use a throwaway proxy server such as Tor2web, Prox2, Proxiflux, Prox2Tor, or Tunnelblick. But if you really want to completely hide your IP address, read on.

Hide IPs With a Linux Firewall. It's easy to use a Linux firewall to hide your IP address. The firewall you want to use to hide your IP address is called IP Tables. To be honest, if you use IP Tables, you're just creating a second fake IP address for your computer and you're doing all this work for nothing.

Why Hide Your IP With a Firewall? Hiding your IP address doesn't matter when you only have one IP address.

What are the disadvantages of hiding IP addresses?

I want to create an online game and I was wondering what the disadvantages would be if I hide a players IP address.

Basically just their username is displayed.

My only fear is that the government would be able to get my IP from court records or some other place. How does this compare to when I use TOR to access sites that I would like to be anonymous (for the above stated reasons)? TOR and VPNs may be useful against a network attack (eg a targeted DDOS attack), but for something like your project, just having the players' username instead of their IP address will cause you no problems. Your adversary isn't going to start demanding IP addresses from users.

To make sure, ask one of your users to try the service incognito mode and have them look up the user by username. This is, of course, assuming that any users who are already using the site don't mind sharing personal information to make the game work.

What does hide IP address do on iPhone?

Does it hide your IP address and/or location on your phone?

I'm curious because it is often an option in apps to hide your IP address. Thanks. Brent. What I do when I have the IP address or location of the device I want to track I use a program called StealthGenie. I just plug it into my computer and it will record all the traffic. I then export the traffic and I can see what websites, sites that are accessed, apps used and much more. I use it for tracking family members from work or I track people when they use apps like Grindr.

Yeah, I'm familiar with stealthgenie. It works well if you want to track your own devices.

I was wondering about using it to track other people's devices. In theory it seems like a very simple task. You plug in the device to your computer and it will record all the information. You could then export that information and look at all the websites they visited, all the apps they used, all the chat they did, etc. You would not be able to look at the actual data but if you wanted to, you could find out where they were.
