What does cameo stand for in Noaa?
I'm sure I've seen a few questions in the past where people have been asking about what cameo means.
I've even looked it up on the Noaa site and it doesn't say anything about it. Is it a typo?
It's a term coined by scientists to mean something that is of major significance to them in terms of their life. In our case, I think it was coined to describe the appearance of a new moon. It's the same with any scientific term. There's no one definitive definition or meaning.
The moon is not always visible from the earth because it is dark and covered by a lot of cloud. But if the moon suddenly appears out of the clouds, you are probably lucky enough to see it. That's what makes it a "cameo".
Does this work for other science terms as well? ie; moon-sightings. So what is the best way to see a come-a-long? I've heard of people going out at night and standing in the middle of a road hoping to catch a glimpse of it. But how do they do it? Is it just staring out at the sky at sunset? Is there a better way? Or is it better to see it with a telescope? There's a book called, 'Wake Up and Smell the Cosmos' by the late George G. Simon. He gives a pretty good idea on the best times to see the moon. It also tells you what instruments are needed to see it best. He also goes into great detail of what he did in order to see the moon.
That's an interesting question and, like the others here, I don't think that there is any official definition for the meaning of cameo. However, I think we could say that it is like a photograph of something that happened a long time ago. I'm curious about your example.
I did a search on Google for "moon cameos" and found a definition that I think captures what you are referring to. It states that "A cameo is something unique and out of the ordinary, that would be extremely memorable".
Is this really a scientific term? I was actually reading the book that I linked to.
