Can I get a job with web scraping?

I have been taking an online course through Udemy for the past 2 months, and I really like the material, but I can't get a good job right now because every time I want to post a job on a local site, all of the other students apply first.

I wonder if there is anything I can do to get my name up there first? Maybe an opportunity to make myself known at companies around the country instead of just posting in my area? Is web scraping just a really hard way to break into the internet that involves many tedious back-breaking hours of work? Hi! It's nice to meet you! First off thanks for your support with Web Scraping, I am a beginner too and it does not take a genius to understand the need of a good web scraper or maybe that is only me :-) however you can find great examples on the web by just searching "web scraping" and start with something simple. I used "Growbots" and "crawler" as mentioned above (you will also have to make money somehow) to do most of the smaller tasks required however the ones who have done it bigger for example you can scrap a site which has thousands of URLs on it. Most importantly you need someone who makes a living off web scraping, that person will make a living working for someone else so they can be trusted as you can spend hundreds of hours in finding a decent scraper and then you have to find someone who will work for your free scraper ;-)
It takes more than that and it will depend on each website that is scraped from. You will know that from doing it, try it out yourself. It's like going from novice to novice and then intermediate to intermediate, after that you can start paying for yourself.

I've read a few of them and while I can't say I agree with all of the numbers quoted, I have a couple of good friends who do this full time.

I think most people who are able to make money at it are doing so by going for gigs that pay per project, as opposed to per hour or per day. However, the ones who make a living out of it don't work for anyone else but themselves, so they have a lot more flexibility to negotiate what they'll get paid. I know that I could have made more, but it was enough to cover my expenses, which were very minimal in that case. I think it's fair enough, as he's paying me to do the job, and I think he's asking me to do it reasonably quickly. I expect it to take a few hours to get it done.

I have a friend who makes decent money on this site. You should try to find out what he earns per project. It took me 6-8 hours to scrape a page, but I also had to spend time learning how to code it.

In my experience, web scraping pays best if the data is relatively clean. He has a lot of experience with it and it takes him about an hour to scrape a page and store it in MySQL.
