Is web scraping job postings legal?
Hi, I am currently working as a web scrapers and I have a few questions: Is it legal for a company to require a job applicant to agree to allow their details to be scraped from the web.
Is it legal for an employer to have a job application which requires a candidate to agree to allow their details to be scraped from the web? I am interested in hearing if companies are actually required to agree to allow their details to be scraped by job applicants or are they just asking for permission? Thanks for your help. Regards. James. September 21st, 2026. RuthAnne@EM. Guest. I think it is okay for a company to ask for permission to scrape details of a candidate - but it is very unprofessional. It shows you do not care about the candidates' privacy and it could be seen as a breach of trust.
There is nothing wrong with asking for permission, but it is a good idea to also explain why you are scraping their details and what you are going to do with them. It's the difference between being a nice person and a cyber-bully.
A company should never ask for permission to scrape details as this can be seen as a breach of trust. It is always best to inform the applicant that you are scraping their details and why.
In some instances a company will ask to scrape information from the web to assist them in their recruitment process, for example a company may ask you to provide a CV. This information will not be passed on to other companies and will only be used for the company in question.
The use of the internet has changed the recruitment landscape in many ways. One example is the ease with which you can apply for a job online. Many people have applied for a job using this method.
This has made it easy for employers to find people for the position. In the past, it would have been extremely difficult to find potential candidates.
The internet has allowed a more streamlined recruitment process. This has benefited both employers and candidates as they no longer have to physically apply for a job. However, it has also made it easier for employers to look at an applicant's CV and/or personal details.
How much can I make web scraping?
Hi all. I'm interested in web scraping. I would like to scrape a site and pull data from it. I want to know if anyone knows how much it is worth doing? If there is any sites that have a template for this sort of thing so I can follow that. I don't know how much it is worth doing at the moment but I think it will be useful to some people.
Thanks. The problem with scraping is that it is not always easy to tell who owns the copyright. For example, Facebook has the ability to detect that you are scraping its data and then send you a legal notice. You could argue that they have the right to be angry that you are scraping their data. If they own the copyright, then yes, they have the right to sue you.
In the US, even if they do not own the copyright, they can still threaten to send a cease and desist letter. So, you need to be careful what you do with their data. I've been working on a very similar project for the last few months. The higher end being for more advanced scripts that require more time for maintenance.
The more advanced scripts will need to be able to parse HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and perhaps other forms of markup. The reason I mention this is because most of the websites I've been scraping have a large number of tags that are used for styling and presentation. I've found that if I include these tags, the quality of the scraped information improves. For example, if I'm scraping a price tag on an item on an Amazon page, I can scrape the price tag just fine, but when the site decides to apply a rule that changes the color of the price tag, the color is no longer properly scraped and the price is displayed in red. This is true for most of the major websites that I've worked with.
To really get the most out of the scraping, you'll need to start with a good framework and keep it well maintained. It's a lot easier to maintain your framework once you've already developed the skills and knowledge necessary to do so.
Can you get a job with web scraping?
What are the best ways to find job after graduating from college?
The question came up in a live job searching webinar on the topic of . There were 2 answers with 5 votes, both of them mentioned LinkedIn as one of the sources.
I did my initial search on Google for this topic, but it resulted in a very broad listing on different types of sites that use web scraping and also for paid vs free web scraping for a job. In the end, the right source for my audience was indeed at Quora on Who Can You Work With for jobs.
I have now started answering questions about career possibilities when graduating with the background of web scraping at Quora and hope to get my own job at that company after graduating. How can I start a side project business with web scraping skills? Most of the new companies have a business opportunity, but in my opinion there are two ways to make money with web scraping: The first way is simply by asking for someone who already has his own website. The business owner can hire you and you can create an API (application programming interface) for him that will let other customers submit content.
The second way is by asking your customers about their problem and see if you can solve them. In other words, you make the customer do part of your work and collect a fee for yourself from that solution. Of course, you need a lot of customers first to be able to make the business grow.
How much do web scrapers get paid?
Are web scrapers like myself just not willing to put in the hours and hours that a legit company does to see my work appreciated or are we competing with them?
So my question is how do they get paid? Do they just have a certain hourly rate that they're working for as well? Hi Kevin, You are right in saying that if you are looking for a steady gig then a WebScraper business would be ideal. You really only have to be aware of the main scams; if you get a new client/job, ask your former client for feedback on how they worked or you will always be wondering if the job was done properly.
As for the hourly rate, it is true you can set up a business such that you get paid per job but it will depend what sort of customer you get (so a scammer will want to know what the per job will be paid). A normal website might pay 200, 500, or maybe the most expensive 1000 or more! (there are many different things that add value to the site). All the best. Chris from WebScraperBusiness. Hey Chris, I believe that's a good question, and I know for a fact that even paying for a scraper in the UK can get expensive in some cases. However, it is still more than most people make in a month and they're working for someone else who may or may not take good care of them.
It is interesting because one person can get very rich at this sort of thing, and yet when you spend money into this kind of thing, you're never quite sure what to expect in terms of your return.
