Why VPN doesn t work on BlueStacks?

The VPN connection on BlueStacks is just like any other network connection.

You'll need to connect the VPN from your device using any other network connection, such as WiFi or cellular data.

You could also use the Android VPN settings from BlueStacks to connect to a VPN server. I'm not sure if that works for VPN's that are not free.

EDIT: Just found this thread. It shows that you can use BlueStacks with a free VPN from IPVanish. It also mentions that there's a way to use a free version of IPVanish, but you won't be able to connect to multiple servers.

Does BlueStacks work with VPN?

Hey, I've read a lot of posts about this, but none of them really answer my question.

I understand that blueStacks needs a VPN to work, but is there a way to use blueStacks without a VPN? For example, are you able to buy another service to work with blueStacks? If so, could someone explain how they do this or how I can do it myself? If you have used blueStacks with a VPN, please feel free to explain how you were able to make it work. Thanks!

No. BlueStacks works in conjunction with something called an IPSec VPN. BlueStacks' servers need to establish a VPN connection to the user's computer to provide the functionality that you would expect from the service.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is a protocol that uses either 128-bit or 256-bit encryption. Both methods are very good (128 bit is more secure than 256 bit). They're both also very easy to implement. We don't actually use either method on our own network. The best choice is for your own network depends on how much you trust your friends and neighbors as well as if you're comfortable with encryption. Both methods have their pros and cons. If we go the route of using a VPN, then we use PPTP (Microsoft's VPN solution).

To connect to a server, an IPSec VPN must be established between the remote client and a remote VPN gateway (which is provided by us). We do that through port forwarding. Port forwarding takes care of the actual tunneling. Basically, a port-forwarding tunnel is set up where a user's computer and ours are connected via the port forward. We use TCP ports 443, 80, and 1025. This means that a user would access our server via the local network (for example, 192.168.111), then a tunnel would be set up to our servers for a remote machine (using 192.222), and finally the traffic would be delivered back to our local network (again, with the 192.111 address).

So, in short, BlueStacks requires a VPN and there's no way around it. We'll always support BlueStacks users if they have any concerns, but at a bare minimum, your computer will need to be signed into a VPN.
