Can I share my VPN through hotspot?
I've recently bought a Nexus 7 tablet and have connected it to my router so I can use it to browse the web. I've also got a 4G dongle for use with my laptop, and want to use that as my VPN server, sharing the internet connection through the tablet. However I don't know if this will work, and how to make it happen.
Can I run OpenVPN through my phone (to share the internet through the dongle), or does the Nexus 7 need to be a dedicated server? If I'm doing this right, is there a command line to setup the routing? Sure. You can set up openvpn server on your mobile phone and share the internet connection through the android tablet. You can share your own vpn connection as well if you need to.
First thing you should do is to add route "0.0 192.168.1" in /etc/openvpn/server.conf file.
Now you need to install the openvpn client and configure the server. I've already written about this in details.
How do I connect my VPN to my computer hotspot?
If your mobile device is Wi-Fi enabled and you have set up your network settings to connect to the same hotspot you set up with Netgate VPN on your device, here are a few steps to get started: Step 1: Open the app of the mobile device you want to connect to the VPN. If your VPN is already open, click on the Connect button in the upper-left corner of the window.
Step 2: You will be presented with a sign-in screen where you need to enter the IP address of your VPN server. After entering the IP address of your VPN server, click on OK.
Step 3: You will be automatically redirected to a login screen of your mobile device. Login with the credentials used in the log-in screen of your VPN. Once you have logged in to your VPN and the connection settings are successful, you can disconnect your mobile device from the VPN by clicking on the little x in the upper right-hand corner of the mobile app window or closing it altogether.
I have connected my VPN to my hotspot, what now? Once you have connected your hotspot to your VPN, after logging in to your VPN you will be able to use your Wi-Fi connected devices, which are on the same VPN connection as the hotspot, from any place in the world.
