Why is my Mac blocking random websites?

Hi.e. I think someone on the Mac (10.6.8) or perhaps a malware has installed some sort of program which is causing the random web sites to be blocked. No virus detected yet but lots of weird connections which look like they're from some sort of virus (not sure about the details - ie do they hang for a long time or what?) and I'm suspicious that the only way to get my data back is to shut down the PC in question. Unfortunately, a reinstall is not really an option. Can anyone please tell me how to identify which programme this is, even if it is just via what it's doing (ie does it just sit there eating cycles or are any messages displayed)? It seems very likely to be a trojan or worm as no one seems to have told me how it got in before (I assume it might be some form of email message - but who would I ask? - or have I somehow installed it myself?) Sorry for asking such a basic question - but so far, my internet has worked for weeks. The only thing I've done different is that I've started using a mobile phone to make a few calls. What I don't want is for my life to be in ruins at the end of the year, as a result of this.

Thank you. P

Answer:Why does my Mac block random websites? If you are suspicious of malware, it is recommended that you scan your computer with anti-malware tool. We also recommend that you use a reputable antivirus program like those made by McAfee or BitDefender, such as Norton, Kaspersky, F-Secure, or Avira. If you are using a laptop, we also recommend that you backup your important files to either a disk, external hard drive, or online cloud storage system. You can download a free utility called Time Machine from the Apple website to help protect your machine from problems and enable you to restore your computer in case it becomes damaged.

You should know that no software is 100 percent secure. However, the fact that you haven't received a virus alert could be due to the fact that malware has been unable to infect your machine. For example, if your work email address is on the list of "phished" addresses, then people may use phishing as a means of acquiring information from you.

How do I stop Safari from restricting websites?

I'm on a Mac running Lion. I'm using Safari 4.0.2.

Most web sites work OK, but in one case when I go to a site that uses Adobe Flash Player, Safari 4.2 completely refuses to load the page.

It's impossible to scroll down the page, or even zoom in on a text box. The browser acts as though it has no idea how to interpret the content of the page.

The Flash content appears to be working fine in another app (and I haven't tried any other browsers, so I can't say for sure what the problem is). But I haven't had any problems with websites that only use HTML and CSS. I've been trying to find a way to get around this problem, but so far to no avail. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the server; it seems to be a problem with Safari.e. Any ideas?
(And no, I haven't disabled Javascript, nor am I going to do so.) So here is what I did to fix it. I did a reset of preferences in System Preferences> General> Reset Safari.e. Button at the bottom.

I closed down the browser, opened it again, restarted the Mac, and opened up Safari again. The site was still there.

Why some websites are not opening in Safari on Macbook?

When I try to open some websites like this site () I get this message : "Webpage not available" and it looks like Safari tried to open the page but it was not able to open. I'm using a Macbook Pro, OS X Yosemite 10.1, Safari version 9.2 (11601.9).

Is there any way to fix this problem or force the browser to open the website? Thank you in advance for your help. The domain name is alpine.tld, so if you change the DNS settings to point to your ISP's DNS server, you should be good.

How do I stop Safari from blocking websites on Mac?

I have a problem with Safari on a MacBook Pro. When I want to visit a website like www.washingtonpost.com, it tries to load the page, then gives me an error that Safari can't load it. The web page goes away as if the server is down. But when I try a different web site, like one at Google, it loads just fine. My problem is that it appears the error only occurs on sites outside of my home network, and I don't know why. I do use the same wireless network for both my Mac and my iPhone, but it isn't a problem on my iPhone. I haven't had this problem before in the last 6 months or so, so I'm not sure what has happened.

I also have the latest version of Safari (5.1.3).

I have no firewall on my computer and the computer is connected directly to the internet. You should have looked into this before you posted. It's been discussed on Ask Different and other sites quite a bit. Also, you should go to Safari support and see if they can help you. Good luck.

If the problem is intermittent, is there a way to stop Safari from trying to load pages and just wait for them to come back up? This would allow you to avoid the intermittent loading that you described. For example, if you press and hold the F button on the keyboard while the cursor is on the web page that won't load, the browser will stay on the page until you let go of the F button. I tried using an ad blocker extension for Safari, but that didn't seem to help. It would load the page without any problems, and the error would show up immediately. It would usually be a site that I had never visited before, like www. It wouldn't happen every time. I've been using the same browser on the same network for the last six months, and never had a problem. Now I'm getting this weird problem again. I would expect the problem to be random, but it seems to happen more often at certain sites than at others.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Mac OS X 10.
