Do I get IP Addresses for every visitor or just when I post on a thread or post a comment? I thought that a thread posting is automatically associated with your IP address so you can comment on the thread and have that IP address used to determine which threads you comment on. Am I missing something? I get the impression that's not the case. Is it the IP addresses that are used to determine whether you comment on a thread or just by association with a thread? Or does one IP address get used by all comments from a specific IP address?

For instance, I recently commented on a thread about Google and other search engines. That comment was then associated with my IP address. I checked and now that I have an IP address it says I have commented 8 times on this forum. There's only 10 threads on this forum so that's an error. If I log out and log back in, I'm told that I've commented on the thread 4 more times.

I get that feeling too. I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV, so I don't know if anything was said in court about this. I would assume the only time a website gets an IP address is when they request it or when they contact one of our hosting companies and ask them for it, but I could be wrong.

I just realized that if I posted a reply it will also show up with my IP address.
