I want to set up a Linux Mint desktop with Chrome.

I have followed the instructions in this answer and the installation goes fine, but the icon is not on my desktop. In my case I have two desktop partitions. /home and /. On the / partition I have:
desktop file from the google-chrome directory to the desktop without any problem, but it doesn't get installed. It is located at /usr/share/google-chrome.

What am I doing wrong? For me, there's no problem with making the .desktop file in /usr/share/google-chrome.desktop or ~/google-chrome/google-chrome. However, after trying to install Google Chrome from the Software Center, I got an error message saying that the package installation failed.

So, I uninstalled Google Chrome and then reinstalled it via the terminal and I was able to make the .desktop file work.
