Is there a problem with Surfshark?

We have tested the Surfshark product line for over a year and we have a good deal of experience with all of them.

However, in light of the recent problems that have arisen we are very concerned about the reliability of the Surfshark products. In the past we have found their customer service to be excellent (to a point), but now it seems as if the products are the problem rather than the company. As always we want to do our best for you, but our experience with the companies in the past has not been good. Our experience with Surfshark: Surfshark's customer service was amazing for the first few months we worked with them. They were very helpful, professional, and courteous. However, after just a couple of weeks they did some major changes to the service that completely changed it from what we had signed up for. Our service was no longer completely encrypted, and it was very unreliable. After several days of having a hard time accessing the VPN or internet, we gave them a call to see if they could help us. The person I spoke to kept saying that they did not know what were talking about, but that I should give them another email to send. He was very frustrated that he couldn't help me and said that's not how we do business. However, he did say he would call me back at a certain time. He called back and talked with me for about 10 minutes, but it turned out that we just could not work out our issues. He said that he could not tell me anything because they don't know why things are going wrong. At the end he thanked me for calling him and hung up. He didn't even know my name.

After this experience we had to call and re-start our service. Surfshark said that we did not start up correctly so we sent them a new password and the activation codes. After the second activation, our service worked, but it was still very unstable. It seemed that any time we tried to connect to the internet, the site would lock us out and we would have to re-activate the service.

Why does Netflix have a problem with VPN?

Last year I set up a Netflix account, and it works well.

However, when I had to leave the USA to go visit the folks for about a month, I found that Netlify would not allow me to connect via VPN. After investigating, I found that Netlify is not the culprit here; Netflix is having a problem with VPN (for whatever reason).

To figure out why the VPN worked on Netflix for a while, then not anymore, I decided to write a blog post to detail how to fix this. The Issue. Here's what happened: I was in the USA, living with my wife in our home in a different country. I went out of the country to visit my folks (the folks live in a country that was relatively close to the USA) and spent three weeks there. When I came back to the USA, I noticed that Netlify said This site doesn't work in this region.

So, what do I do? Do I just live with that? If the solution is simple, then why is it not working? Can the system admins at Netflix be more clear about what the issues are? After some investigation, we found that Netflix had changed their rules on what countries can and cannot access their content. What happened was, the old set of rules kept working with a VPN connection. When Netflix changed their rules, the Netflix app stopped working with a VPN. That's all there was to it.

How to Fix It. So, there is a solution, and it's simple. Just change some configuration values on Netlify's server.

As an experiment, we created a VPN link that will work even if Netflix decides to change their rules on where they'll allow you to access their content. It only works right now because Netlify has not yet changed their behavior based on the new rules. But Netlify is changing their behavior. It will happen when they deem it necessary to implement the new behavior.
