How do I install PIA extension?

Does PIA work on iOS?

Question about PIA and iOS - I've had a question about using PIA to connect to the iPhone from my PC and use the internet on the iPhone - PIA states it works with iPhone/iPod Touch.

It appears from the research I have done that only the iPod touch works, is this correct? And has anyone else tried it PIA doesn't appear to work on the iPod Touch 2nd generation and later as it is a closed system, but the 3rd gen iPod Touch still has no open source Wi-Fi driver. The device works fine with the USB version of PIA, which does support the 3rd gen iPod Touch. However, you will have to run some extra software to make PIA use the Wi-Fi driver for the iPod Touch.

Thanks for the reply. I am not interested in using it for internet access (although I will use PIA to connect to the PC and transfer photos from the phone). I am interested in using PIA to connect to the phone and access the phone's web browser and apps.

So in your experience, is there a way to use PIA with the phone? Is it just not supported or is it simply the fact that it is a closed system that they can't work around? No, PIA doesn't work on the iPhone 3GS. But, the 3rd gen iPod Touch still has no open source Wi-Fi driver. I am not interested in using it for internet access (although I will use PIA to connect to the PC and transfer photos from the phone).

Thanks for your response. I see what you are saying, the 3rd gen iPod Touch has no open source Wi-Fi driver and therefore I'm not interested in using it for internet access. If you have any further information please let me know.

The 3rd gen iPod Touch has no open source Wi-Fi driver.

How do I set up PIA VPN on my iPhone?

If you're looking to use Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN with an iPhone, here's the how-to for iOS 8. Note: the instructions assume you're using this tutorial to setup PIA on your Mac. Step 1: Connect. On your Mac, open up Network Preferences. To do so, go to System Preferences > Network > View Options > Select Ethernet and click Select Automatically.

Go to Preferences and turn off any automatic login that's being used. That way when you reboot, your Mac won't log in automatically without your iPhone having a VPN connection to authenticate you.

Turn off Automatic Configuration (if used). I've had troubles trying to get it to automatically configure the way it should have.

On the Network tab of the Preferences app on your Mac, click Configure to bring up the Network Preferences (Mac only). Turn on VPN/TCP over IPsec, disable Dynamic DNS and Disable DNS Leak Protection. (The first two will prevent your Mac from logging in automatically, and prevent DNS leaks, respectively.)

When finished, click Apply in the bottom right corner of the window. You should then see a VPN icon on your left side menu bar. Step 2: Set up your iPhone to connect to your PIA VPN. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > About > Scroll down to VPN and enable the VPN you just set up on your Mac. If there is no VPN name listed on the page you may need to turn on WIFI in order for it to find your network.

When your network is found, you'll be able to click on the name of the VPN that you just set up. Click the blue button next to Connect.

You can now click on the name of the network you're using in your device, or simply disconnect from the network to leave it as is. Step 3: Enjoy. Now you're free to surf around internet with your iOS devices, like you would while using a wifi hotspot. Please note that Apple does not officially support PIA in iOS devices. Use of this configuration is solely at your own risk and is not guaranteed by Apple. I personally recommend using PIA with our servers.

And where can I find more information on the PIA extension?

Are there any tutorials that demonstrate PIA's features?
For example, I want to get a list of all running services on my PC and filter that by using the filter button. PIA is just an additional web interface for your MS Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Photo Gallery. It was designed by Yahoo's developers who decided they should use it for their own service.

When the Microsoft (PIE group) PIA team got together last year, they decided to build PIA and integrate it with Live Messenger and the Live Gallery. But if you have neither of those products installed, there is no way to view them.

You would need to install the Windows Live Essentials bundle. Once that has been installed, go to Here are some instructions from the Live Search team which were posted on the PIE Blog: If you haven't had the chance to get Live Windows Search already, download it right now. Launch Windows Explorer and copy the content from this zip file to ProgramDataMicrosoft. Create the SkyDrive folder and unzip the program contents to that location. Download and install all the files below. Add the application and click OK. Start your Web Browser and navigate to the homepage of your browser's address bar. Enter skydrive.live.com in the Location field.

Enter your Windows Live ID and password as they appear in your e-mail. Once you're logged in, search for photos, video or text files, using a keyword to narrow down your search. The SkyDrive site will update you on the status of downloading and installing. You can find a few short videos which show how you can use PIA to search the SkyDrive at both and The only problem is that the Windows Live Photo Gallery isn't going to be included in the Live Essentials suite (), so you'll need to get a copy of Live Photo Gallery separately and install that to view images.
