Click the Windows icon in the taskbar, choose Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and make sure you have the latest updates.

Can I use Google Family Link on a PC?

I have several children that are currently enrolled in online schools.

I've been thinking of purchasing a chromebook to use at home, and then also use a computer that has been used on family pc with our accounts set up from my other Google Account (the one with the kids names enrolled). My question is this: If I enroll the chromebook in the account set up from my other Google account (with the kids names), will that make them think it's their school rather than us buying their devices and having a family google account for the devices? Can that be reversed and deleted if needed for whatever reason?

If were to be able to set a "shared family domain" like this, what would happen to the Chromebook enrollment? I know that once enrollment and settings are locked it cannot be changed, but once things are set up as a "school/family" account and set up for Chromium OS, will I be able to have a chromebook set up with the devices, and if so, how? Will it revert to just a regular student account (no chromebook)? I don't believe you can set up an account that your child doesn't have access to. Even if you can, it wouldn't take much to change the password anyway, which would immediately revert their access back to their regular google account. You could change their shared family domain setting which would allow them access, but you won't be able to change anything else to the account because, like you said, it's locked. It's like they're logged in, but without a way to change anything. For example: if you could change a single document out of the "folder" it's a "folder" inside of for them, it wouldn't be a valid solution for privacy.

In short, it will cause confusion between which account owns the device. The issue isn't a technical one (even though you're using a family account on a PC, it's possible to set the computer to use its own account) but a usability one, especially because any change to the account settings could render the account temporarily useless. So you need to get around that. Here's my recommendation:

Enroll them all as students in their own accounts. From there you can set up family domains for each classroom and give them shared access (meaning you'll still control the documents and whatnot). But only allow access from a web browser.

Can you put parental controls on Windows 11?

I recently updated to Windows 11 (previously 10) and am looking for parental controls. I know of a program called Family Control Suite, but can you simply download it from Microsoft and use it? Or does it require a Windows 10/8/7 device to be installed on your PC? Windows doesn't even allow it, although it would probably require the parents' permission. There's an open Windows project named "GetParentalControls" that was previously rejected by Microsoft for several reasons, one of which seems to be similar to yours.

The Family Options program is a product of the Department of Justice, and the company who produces it, iNet, claims you need a "PC with Parental Controls for Windows 7 & 8 that were purchased from your original PC vendor". But, when you try to actually do something that involves accessing Windows Updates. That message doesn't come up, and if you disable your Updates from the Windows 10 Settings, and re-enable them you get a message that you may need to restart your PC to complete the Windows Update Install. But it doesn't really make sense.

Did you purchase your PC from a PC manufacturer that has the feature? My son's is a Dell that originally came with the feature. Since you can't install updates without first turning off parental controls, we turned off parental controls by default. When they try to install anything related to Updates, it tells us to turn parental controls back on for now.but that was a few months ago.

Just in case you never noticed. There are 2 (possibly more.) buttons at the top right corner of the Windows screen. Clicking on the smaller of the two opens (or activates) a drop down menu of "Add an action".and you can type in whatever program you want to add to the menu.
