Can I download a customs declaration form?

Is the US customs declaration form still required?

I am traveling to the US this week from the UK and the forms that are required by the US customs for international travel have not changed in over 20 years.

The only change was that now you cannot print them out from the US Customs website (you used to be able to with the old forms). The new forms are not as long or complicated as the old form. The new form (for me) is simply 1 page and its pretty simple. My flight to the US will arrive at around 5pm EST on Thursday 19th February. I am very concerned about how long I will have to wait for my bag to be scanned in. I am flying Air France, so I would have to pay a premium for an E-visa, but I just need to know if I am wrong about how long it should take. I also know that because of security issues, I cannot buy my own E-visa either. All I can do is hope that they are being honest and they really do only take 2 days to process these forms. If I am wrong and the whole process takes 3 days, then that is a lot of time away from home. So can anyone help me. Thanks.

You're correct, there are no longer any paper forms. As of October 2026, most travelers receive an electronic CBP Form 175B, which was formerly known as the Declaration For Purposes of International Transportation. Electronic CBP Forms were first introduced in August 1998. For more information, visit

Can I download a customs declaration form?

Yes.

You can download the form from the Customs and Border Protection's website. To do so, follow these steps:

At www.cbp.gov, click on the link "Apply Online."

Select your entry or exit point. If you are not entering the United States from a foreign country, click on the link "Inbound" to apply for a document that will be issued at the time you enter the United States. If you are entering the United States from a foreign country, click on the link "Outbound" to apply for a document that will be issued when you leave the United States.

To learn more about the application process, see my guide, "Getting the Form." What does my customs declaration say? The customs declaration is a record of what you brought into or out of the United States, including its value. It tells customs officials whether you entered the country as a U. Or non-U. Citizen. It also tells them whether you entered the country with a commercial shipment, how much was in the shipment, the country of origin, and how much duty you paid.

You will need a passport and the information listed above to be sure you have enough proof of citizenship and you are eligible to file a claim. Contact the nearest CBP office to find out if a declaration is necessary.

Do I have to show the form to customs officials? No. You may show it to someone at the airport, but not to an agent at the border. An agent can read your customs declaration when you are leaving the country, but not when you are entering the country.
