Can I install a VPN on my Smart TV?
The short answer is yes, but you'll need to be smart about it.
You can connect to public VPN services without much of a worry, but some VPNs have issues accessing local networks or don't work with certain applications that might be found on devices like Blu-ray players or other connected devices.
A more comprehensive answer comes from looking at Smart TV capabilities and their integration. The Smart TV market has evolved, where many TVs now offer internet connectivity. That's because Smart TVs are actually not only set-top boxes. If your internet TV has a 4K or HDR display, you'll be able to stream apps and content to that screen. For more information, check out:
Is My Smart TV Safe? The short answer is no, not entirely. Since the term 'Smart TV' now includes streaming boxes (also known as set top boxes) and even some TVs with Internet connectivity, as mentioned earlier, it's a fair bet that most of your connected TV hardware contains software that exposes security vulnerabilities for hackers to exploit.
Many of these vulnerabilities were first discovered by researchers at the University of Cambridge in 2025, which revealed how they'd been able to use a flaw to take over a smart TV that was then able to control all sorts of things like heating, blinds, lights, and so forth. You'd obviously want to take these precautions while browsing the web on your connected device. There are certain precautions you can take to increase your security:
Use a web browser that has been updated to a later version (typically Chrome or Firefox). Most smart TV platforms include Web browsers as an important feature. These older versions may have unpatched flaws in common web browser extensions that can leave your Smart TV vulnerable to attacks.
Use a security extension for Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to verify webpages that you visit online. You may be inclined to use a different extension on your computer than your TV. While that's technically possible, you probably won't want to accidentally switch extension on your TV for no good reason.
Do not enter usernames, passwords, or personal identification numbers on websites that do not require authentication. By default, most web browsers will log what they type and how they type it. The only way to disable this is by clearing the cookies in your browser.

Can I get ExpressVPN on LG Smart TV?
It looks like ExpressVPN has made announcement for their services which are currently in the beta stage for LG TVs, this means that ExpressVPN may still only work with certain LG TVs but if there's a chance you own one you can try this out and see. The current support page shows that you will be able to use the service on LG tvs up to G7 model, this is all there is at the moment just so keep that in mind if you have one of these TVs don't expect much on the matter. So there it is, as we know they are currently only in beta stage and if you do happen to get it to work maybe we'll get some more info about it then. You can also check out the official website of ExpressVPN which you will find on the first page you load. We can also find the support page of this provider under a dedicated tab on the website.
If we look into the table above we can see that every model has 4GB of RAM which we might consider quite good especially on the lowest tier of 2GB we all know it's not really worth it for them. Even though we know it will work for certain models we can see more in the future too, so the fact that this isn't in the list means that you need to wait and see if you own one of these LG TVs as you need to wait until more information is released or the product itself to see which of the models are supported or not. Hopefully we'll be able to give more in-depth reviews of these models after more information comes along but as long as we get an update from them as there is nothing new since they made this announcement yet, we can say we got nothing which means it's only worth mentioning we've got nothing to mention which doesn't mean it can't happen because the servers are on standby waiting for the update. But once again this is just a beta stage test so if you happen to get it working for sure it won't work forever but for now it's great news about how it can help increase your privacy online even for those of you who have an LG TV. Is ExpressVPN free? As long as you're willing to wait or want to wait you're going to be getting ExpressVPN for free.
