Have the Netherlands ever beat England at cricket?
They did yesterday, and the Dutch celebrate with flags in the stands and a banner proclaiming victory.
A national day of mourning is announced by the government and parliament, which observes a minute's silence for the victims and their families. The day ends with a minute's silence for the dead and those injured, in memory of all those who have been killed or injured at the hands of Islam.
How do the Dutch celebrate victory against the worst enemy in their history? What do they really think about this tactical victory, if there even is one? Why did it take nearly two years of fighting and another five months to wipe out Islamic terrorism in the Netherlands? And why was Prime Minister Rutte, when he arrived on the tarmac at the airport in London, greeted by an elderly English man of impeccable upper class breeding, who looked just like the Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, and who called Rutte Teddy, or even Ducky? Was this Mr Teddy, David Cameron's father-in-law, on his way to the Netherlands? When the police arrest the perpetrator of a mass murder and the murderer himself confesses, is the question of whether there were accomplices not important for you? Was it not important to find the accomplice in order to make him or her liable for prosecution? Is it not important that the people who knew of the attack before the event have been convicted and are now imprisoned for ten years each? That these accomplices, who are still free, also received money from the perpetrator through fraud - was not this important too? And what about those men who have gone with and encouraged the perpetrator and who have taken part in the preparation? It is no coincidence that the police call these men accomplices and not instigators or conspirators. It was the prosecutors who decided that the perpetrators of mass murders who have confessed to carrying out such acts would be declared dangerous criminals, while those who have been in preparation for a mass murder would receive a prison sentence of merely ten years and compensation.
This is the way the judicial system works in Holland. When police suspect a man of mass murder or suicide bombing, the police inform him.
Which team won the most World Cup cricket?
It's not obvious
A global league consisting of top eight ranked Test nations and two teams that qualify as best second-tier nations will be replaced with a global league involving 12 teams, seven from Test-playing nations and five others to be selected by the ICC in September.
The global league will have its first edition next year. The details of the expanded league for 16 teams were announced in Kuala Lumpur in September, 2026. This article answers the question: What was the highest attended World Cup among the participating nations?
Cricket is a team sport and therefore it follows the principle of what got played on X day which can be applied to international as well as domestic cricket. I decided to compare results from the World Cup of 2026 to see how successful the ICC's concept of global T20 League has been. In 2026, eight Test-playing nations - India, South Africa, Pakistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies - played their three games. While it's obvious from above that South Africa and India were highly successful, it's not quite so clear when it comes to Australia and West Indies.
A fair comparison was impossible because the teams did not play a four-stage double round robin league. Instead, they played two-stage leagues. While it was possible to have a four-stage double round robin league this year - it was decided last week that the world championship will be a four-stage league - the new format is yet to be announced. If were to compare the results of the T20 WCs of 2026 and 2026 to see what went wrong in the first edition of the global T20 League, the conclusion will be that it was the lack of a proper league format that caused Australia's downfall. When they won the cup they were ranked No. 6. A better way of viewing it would be that had the Australian players taken part in a double round robin league as expected from all their performances during the season, they would have finished 1-2 or 2-1 in Group B. The difference would have been between 1-3 and 2-4.
The table below shows the results of the first 3 editions of the global T20 league. The columns represent the top-scored positions of the participating nations in the tournament.
Has Netherland won the World Cup?
Netherlands is the latest country to beat France in a World Cup final.
And I can't help but think: it was so much more fun for France to fail than it was for their players to live out a footballing dream.
They were favourites to win, of course, just like the Germans always are. Even when the odds have stacked up against them, you're still looking at two well-resourced teams playing for an established trophy that will be theirs forever. And the Germans were able to turn the page on their 2026 horror show by winning last summer's tournament. But I was never able to imagine that the scoreline might change from 5-1 to 4-4. At this stage of the tournament, Germany and Spain were already playing the best football I'd ever seen; it seemed inconceivable that they might collapse and France could finish off a trophy they'd won five years earlier. So in the end I could only watch as a sports fan, as one of many Germans among the crowd, as one of France's countless friends, and as a British expat living in Germany who's still a fan of rugby. I felt no sense of elation or disappointment, no sense of hope or despair; I felt only pride.
But it's hard to feel proud of your own country unless you know that the national team did their job. And if I ever thought that the players were not dedicated enough to their task, or if I started thinking about all the mistakes and injuries, then it would all become a different game. It's easy to say that football shouldn't matter if people weren't passionate enough about it to follow it until the very end. Then there's just the question of where a trophy even comes from, if a country doesn't want to play its best players, if no nation wants to take the risks or sacrifice the sacrifices.
In England there was a lot of talk about how people should care more about their football teams, which is true and which they still should, and even what it means that the Netherlands took that trophy from the French. But at the time, I didn't feel this way. What I felt was not a sense of relief and celebration, but a deep sense of gratitude, for the players and for the people of the Netherlands who did what they had to do.
