What's better VPN or proxy?

I am just looking for a simple, secure and free VPN for use on my iMac.

I want it to work at school so I can access files I want to but I don't want to give them my details so I was wondering what is better VPN or proxy? A proxy hides the real IP address while a VPN changes your IP address as if you're in a different location. I've had issues with proxying sites before, not from all of the proxies but those from China that tried to do all the dirty tricks by trying to block anything I wanted to watch. For example if I try to proxy BBC iPlayer I get a message saying there's no available servers.

I've always thought proxy was the best option and I always use it, however a lot of the free ones are crap and slow down the whole internet when they first start up. I use to get my UK web based services through a proxy on a VPS on their network, however I've never managed to access this website with a proxy from this VPS, something that works fine on all other websites.

I have recently upgraded to one of their paid subscriptions, and am extremely happy with the service. As mentioned previously, proxies are easy to set up. In most cases, they're just a matter of changing a few settings in the browser. However, the downside is that you can't use the internet at work as your proxy. So if you need to browse the web or send email while you're on the company's network, then a proxy won't help you.

Of course, that's not a problem if you're using a virtual private server or a remote desktop. A VPN does what proxies do - it connects your machine to the internet via a remote server. The difference is that a VPN does more than just hide your IP. It makes you look like you're somewhere else, making it much harder for companies to track your browsing history.

Virustotal has been updated for this change. Thanks for pointing this out to us.

The latest versions of Flash have this vulnerability. Users can now get the full version of Flash, or the 'lite' version. The latter is the version used by many browsers including Safari.

The lite version will only play videos on Youtube or other Flash based websites.

How to get US proxy?

I'm from China. I'm looking for an American IP.

I need this IP to visit a website that is only available in America. There is no Google search on how to get an American proxy. And no one know.

I do not even know how to ask. When I go to "", I cannot see Google search. The only result is www.google.com.

So how can I use the American (or European) site to search Google? Is it possible to use VPN to get a US IP? Can I use any free VPN? Or free proxy. Or any website to find a US proxy? I don't even know how to ask. Please help! Thank you! ANSWER. There are quite a few ways you can achieve this. I don't think you want free VPN, as this is one way of doing what you want, and it's highly illegal.

I will give you the short answer; you can get a US proxy from a VPN, however these are not cheap, but the only one I recommend you is ProxySG, which gives you US proxy, Australia proxy and lots of other countries, not just the US. You could also use a Free VPN for Windows - CyberGhost, however, the free version doesn't work too well when looking up websites, however, if you pay for the premium version, they do have excellent filtering, with good customer support as well. However, the Free VPN for Windows - Free Internet Freedom has some excellent features such as anti-DNS leaks, VPN tunnels, and DNS leak protection, and their customer support isn't the greatest, but it's free for a trial period, and it does all the things you want to do. There are other free options out there as well, including ones I personally use, and recommend: It's probably worth pointing out that when I'm searching for sites in the USA, these are where the search engines return results. If you are not happy with this, I can suggest some great sites that will give you the proxies you want, and that includes the US servers.

dlentz: it might be a good idea to run ubuntu-support-status on the host you are trying to connect from.

but I am also just now realizing you are in an ubuntu development channel. i'm just trying to figure out what the deal is. !ot Please register with NickServ (see /msg ubottu !register) and use #ubuntu-offtopic for other topics (though our !guidelines apply there too). Thanks! ok, but. you don't get to discuss any topics, actually. which is a good thing, because it would get you kicked. oh, sorry. try to keep in mind that you are in a support channel here, and that questions about this should be directed towards the ubuntu support channel (if that's relevant), or to the support channel of your preferred package management software. "distro" or "OS", sorry ;). dlentz, you can check this out. cim209, that's the site I was asking about. dlentz: please post full outputs of the command lines you ran.pastebin For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use screenshots use !pastebinit to paste directly from command line. tomreyn, no output. dlentz, I know but some time ago you asked for a free proxy. cim209, that's why I found it :P. dlentz: please also show the line you are actually reading from.
