How do I connect a VPN router to an existing router?
If I have a wireless router and then I need to add a VPN so all the devices on the network can access the Internet, how do I do this? After adding a VPN service how do I connect it to the router? I'm trying to use a VPN provided by my ISP that I signed up with. So far I can only download a.TXT file that says that my VPN is running and how to connect to it. How do I access the Internet through my VPN? Isn't the VPN meant to allow me to use different devices like my tablet or smartphone?
I have a router already connected to the modem/cable box and I am wondering if it was possible to add a VPN so I can access the Internet through my VPN. Welcome to the forums, Gloggy. I've a few things to say that might help you get an idea of how to do this, but I'll leave it to you to follow up with more specific questions, or if this doesn't answer your question.
How do I setup a VPN at home router?
I'm looking to setup a VPN on my home router so that I can securely access the internet from my laptop on the go. I have a TP-Link Archer C9 router and I'm wondering what the best way to go about this is. I've looked into OpenVPN and PIA but I'm not sure which one to go with. I've also looked into the VPN Router app for Android but I'm not sure if that's the best method either. If anyone could shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated I am not a VPN expert, but I use the TPLink Archer C9 and it works very well. I have used the PIA app for android, and it works fine. My situation is that I am on vacation, and I will be using a VPN to connect to the office. So I am trying to decide if I should have my laptop connect to the VPN or if I should just use the VPN on my router.
If I connect my laptop to the VPN, I don't have to worry about it disconnecting, but I will have to setup the VPN on my laptop, and I'm not sure how that will work. I've setup OpenVPN on my TP-Link Archer C9 before. It's pretty easy. I use the OpenVPN GUI on my desktop to download the OpenVPN client and then use the OpenVPN GUI on my laptop to connect to the VPN.
You don't have to worry about your laptop disconnecting from the VPN. The VPN server will keep your laptop connected to it, even if you are out of range.
The only time you might have to do anything on your laptop is if you are using a mobile data plan, and you go out of range of your home network, and your laptop is connected to your home router via the VPN. In this case, you would have to disconnect from the VPN and reconnect, or you can use a mobile hotspot to get back online.
