Should you go to the GP for any kind of supplement, if you need? Are the supplements that expensive and that much needed for a general healthy nutrition that they become overpriced (as some websites say)

I take multi-vitamin once a day, nothing like that which you describe. My diet and activities do not require more than this as long as I don't have an acute health problem. If you were to take these pills everyday for the rest of your life, there would be less issues with it too, but I wouldn't suggest it. There is way too much risk for problems (like heart conditions, liver problems). Also, the body produces the stuff on its own anyways and the pill will do no good. It would also depend on your body's needs at the time.
It's not uncommon for people to take a multivitamin per day. I took it for nearly a decade. But I stopped a couple of years ago because I felt as though my body was getting enough from a varied diet. This includes protein, vitamins, and other nutritional things.
If you were taking selenium (which in normal daily intake levels) and other things in a multivitamin, which contains all of these, there isn't anything wrong with it. But there could be an issue if you didn't know any better. So, again, stop it.
I usually do get up to the level of 200ug. I've had the recommended amount in the past, but I think that might have been around 2005/2006 when they lowered it.
