How popular is Netflix in Japan?
Netflix is a huge hit in Japan, but how many people do you think are actually streaming it?
It's a big hit for two main reasons. Firstly, it offers unlimited streaming of popular TV shows and movies for only 480 a month. Secondly, it has many popular titles, both old and new, available for streaming, and its popularity in Japan has grown exponentially since its arrival in 2025.
When Netflix launched in Japan, it was pretty much an afterthought, but the service has become an instant hit. In fact, Japan has become a huge market for Netflix, with more than half of its over 24 million members worldwide being based in Japan.
The service is a big hit not only for its content, but also for its pricing. It's so cheap that there's no way to resist its charms.
According to research conducted by Netflix, there are currently nearly 40 million Japanese subscribers. The service has also been growing at a rate of 15-20% a year since it launched.
The popularity of Netflix in Japan isn't limited to its content, however. Its pricing is just too attractive to be ignored, and people in Japan have certainly taken notice.
This is almost unheard of in Japan, but the service has managed to pull it off by offering an extremely generous monthly subscription plan. When you pay 480 a month, you get unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows, and it's very easy to find titles available for streaming. The majority of Japanese Netflix subscribers tend to watch one title at a time, so it's a great way to pick up new TV shows and movies.
The prices vary according to the amount of content and extras you want, and some customers choose to pay less for fewer extras. Some people pay a lot more for access to certain features, and so the price of Netflix in Japan depends on the amount of content you want.
However, the pricing is often so attractive that it's become the default choice for most people.
What is the Netflix top 10?
In case you haven't heard, Netflix is streaming hundreds of films on its website - something they call 'Netflix Originals'.
What they don't tell you is that all the films they stream aren't new releases, but were movies that Netflix had previously released and/or licensed. Now it turns out that a few months ago I had compiled an original list of films that would fit under the 'Top 10 Best Films Of All Time' banner (check it out here). But if you look at the films listed in the Netflix top 10, some are better than others. I have decided to create my own list of Netflix top 10 movies as an addendum to the Netflix top 10 because there are films that I believe are better than the Netflix top 10 movies that they have listed. Below you will find my own top 10.
MARTIN MARINO AND MARVIN SCOTT-HERMAN. Actors: Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Paul Sorvino, Lorraine Bracco, Al Pacino, Charles Shaughnessy, Vincent Pastore, Joe Pesci, Paul Sorvino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pantoliano, Joe Mantegna, Stephen Tobolowsky, Richard Gere, Jerry Lanning, Gene Hackman. Director: Robert De Niro. Genre: Drama. Year: 1972. Runtime: 105 minutes. I'm going to try not to use a lot of spoilers, so you don't ruin this movie for yourself. The main reason why I'm recommending this movie to you today is that Netflix decided to add it to their 'Netflix Originals' section and they are promoting the hell out of this movie. They have also released all the available episodes of the TV show on the streaming service, called 'The Godfather'.
The story follows the events that led up to the murder of a man named Hyman Roth at the hands of members of the Cosa Nostra. It tells the story of how Roth became a major player in the criminal underworld and how he managed to work his way up to the position of boss of the Mafia.

The first season received critical acclaim and earned numerous accolades, including two Golden Globe Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Foy.
