Hi there. I'm a student at U of M, and we have a network of computers called the MSN University Domain. There's one computer in that network that is running Windows Media Center, and is serving as a media center. It does not have any other software installed on it except for Windows Media Center. The rest of our network consists of a Linux server that is also a media center, and a Windows 7 desktop. On both of those computers, there are no other programs except for Hulu Plus.

So the setup is like this: Server --> Windows Media Center PC --> Linux PC (running Kodi). I have a proxy that I set up to access Hulu from the MSN University Domain. That proxy is configured to use port 8080. The only other port that is open is port 443, which is used by my VPN.

When I was first downloading Hulu, I would get the "proxy is not allowed" error, but when I changed the proxy settings on Hulu, it stopped giving me that error. However, Hulu still says that I'm using a proxy. I can't figure out why Hulu says this. Does anyone know what I need to do to make Hulu recognize that I'm not using a proxy?

Re: Is Hulu saying I have a proxy? There is a setting that allows you to automatically connect to the proxy, and then you don't have to think about it. When you are using the regular Hulu website, go to Preferences > Network > Automatic Proxy Settings, and tick the box next to Use a proxy server. If you are trying to watch Hulu with the add-on, go to Add-ons > Hulu Plus > Settings > General > Use a proxy server. Once you've done that, Hulu will use the proxy server that you've configured, and you won't have to mess with it again. Thanks for the info, but I'm not sure what you're saying. I was able to watch Hulu without any problems. I set up the automatic proxy setting so that it would automatically use the proxy. I don't know what you're talking about with the add-on.

How do I fix my Hulu proxy error?

I have been using Hulu Pro since my college days. Now that I've moved to a new area, I don't receive the error that the Hulu servers are busy for the requested page. It says that they're having problems right off the bat and doesn't provide the login information, just an error page. If I'm reading the error right, it's an error in the connection rather than the content. How do I fix this?

First thing to check: Does your proxy allow unsecure access? Some of these are limited to https only. Do you have the newest version of HULU (not Hulu Plus)? I recently installed it from the Amazon App store on my Android phone and I was able to log into it using a wifi connection. Make sure you have the newest version of HULU.

Do you get the "Server is temporarily overburdened" message when trying to access Hulu via your normal means? The error message indicates a problem with your connectivity, not content. Sometimes a server being overloaded means that someone else was making lots of requests. When this happens Hulu is temporarily unavailable.

I don't have the error anymore, but I wasn't sure if the issue was fixed or not. Does any of this help? Do you get the same error message when you're trying to use the app via wifi? Nancy. I'm very glad that I did get this reply. Before I started on my own troubleshooting efforts I could never get past the initial message stating that my proxy server was not available. That was the only time I ever did get that message (unless my server is working correctly). However, if it is true that it is a problem with my Internet connection rather than a problem with Hulu, I'll be satisfied regardless. Just in case it does turn out to be a legitimate issue, my ISP does block outgoing HTTP.

Thanks for your reply. I guess it must be the same thing as what @Lonny mentioned, and I had the same results as he described. I don't believe it's really an error in my connection, but rather an issue with your connection. I'm using a cable modem and Verizon as my provider.
