Re: ? If you're running IE 7 or 8, or using a previous version of IE 6 (6.0x - 6.0b), you'll have to change settings in your network settings for a Proxy server to point to port 8080. Then when you go to the website, if you look at the bottom of the page, you'll see an area that reads "This website has detected your Internet connection through a proxy server." and tell them to use port 8080 instead of 80. Otherwise you'll be running into the same problems as you are right now.

I'm using a third party VPN service called StrongVPN, which is just giving me a different IP address every time I connect.

Edit: Your error messages shows that you are sending a HTTP request to their servers, but they are not allowing this (HTTP requests are not allowed). This will be in your proxy settings or settings on your router.

This answer assumes that you have enabled the proxy settings in Settings > Advanced > Network > Proxy. This step should also be available as a menu option in the browser.

Note that many websites will attempt to detect a proxy, and may fail. For this reason, Hulu's server settings may not contain information about your proxy settings, and they may also refuse to accept incoming connections from the local network. In either case, Hulu simply redirects requests made to their servers to the IP address specified in the "manual" settings. The reason you need a VPN to access Hulu, is that without the VPN you are probably not actually tunneling the connection over the Internet to the actual Hulu servers. Instead, you are establishing a direct connection with the Hulu servers, which can be blocked by various ISPs. The VPN tunnel prevents this from happening, and then the Hulu servers can connect to you as they would connect to any other user.

Now if you are getting redirected to www.hulu.com/proxy even though you've manually set a proxy, this means that the settings in Settings > Advanced > Network > Proxy are empty.
