Can you restrict websites on Chrome?

How do I block a website in Chrome manually?

I use chrome daily, and I recently noticed that there is a website that I have no interest in visiting.

I would like to manually block it from my computer, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Can someone please help? I know you asked for Chrome, but this should also work for other browsers. Just enter the domain name in the address bar of your browser and hit enter.

As of this writing, the following sites will be blocked: Yahoo. You can also set up your DNS to block any subdomain by using the cname option and entering the domain name. The following are listed as cnames that point to blocking: google.com bing.com The first site you linked to, Gizmodo, uses the subdomain of gizmodo. I'm guessing they didn't bother putting an actual domain name in their DNS, so I'm guessing it would just give you a 403 error. That's not a good thing to want.

How? By allowing cookies, of course!

In the past few weeks I have been making some web apps. It's a simple todo app, something I like to use on my iPhone as well to see what I need to work on next. As I wanted this app for Mac and my iPhone, I am using Safari.e. And I really liked Safari's Webkit engine with which I can build beautiful web pages, even if it isn't native on my iPhone. There's another problem: Safari doesn't block tracking by website-tracker. So, when I go to , for example, there's a banner on the top-right that pops up and tracks me. I never saw that. Not even at my old job. How can I do without it?

Chrome does block tracking, which is great. It blocks ads and stuff. But how can you block tracking on Safari? Let's hack this.

What I tried to find out first was why this banners was added in the first place. I did some research and found out that reallifemagazine uses Facebook's Like-button. So that makes sense. They want people to give them 5-stars and leave a comment and share the article. Great, let's implement this ourselves and not let their banner show up. What is the best way to tell Facebook to do that in our app? I had to read the docs over and over again until I found out. Facebook just blocks all your clicks at the site, so you can't click directly on it. But you can click on a like-button and then the click will be shown as an action.

When you click on the like-button, we use a click-to-action: a little window opens up, after which a facebook dialog is opened. Here, in my case, I entered the comment-box (I really like the magazine) and in the end, I gave a thumbs-up for 5-stars. And now there's no annoying banner anymore and I can close the window again. This way they can track it.

What is the Chrome extension to temporarily block websites?

I'm going to assume that the reason I need this is because I will be on public wifi when in a hurry or if there is a particular site that's draining my battery.

Are there any free alternatives? Is this going to work for any site? This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! I am assuming you are not asking about disabling pages you have already visited but instead about blocking entire domains for a given time. I don't believe you can do this on a Chrome extension level, however you could do it in Chrome with the following method: Create a shortcut to chrome.exe and add the --disable-extensions switch Start Google Chrome and then type the following URL: chrome.exe --disable-extensions --app-is-id= The --disable-extensions switch will disable extensions but preserve existing settings. You can add the --disable-popups switch if you also wish to block popups.

The Google Chrome website describes other switches you can pass to Chrome.
