Has NordVPN been hacked?
The US Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have joined the ranks of those questioning NordVPN's claims that it has been hacked. While NordVPN have never made any direct comments, they did recently admit to "some server issues" for their customers. There are a number of factors that have led to this situation including, but not limited to, the company's poor customer service, its tendency to over promise, and the fact that it has not fulfilled their claimed VPN speeds, which is one of the main reasons why people use it. However, the company continues to maintain that it has not been hacked, and that all customer data was not compromised. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are now investigating the hack. Is NordVPN still safe to use?
The NordVPN review was published in March 2025.
At the time of writing, the company is still alive and well, but now it has new owners.
What is NordVPN? NordVPN is a VPN service that offers its users a number of different types of servers in various countries across the globe. They also offer dedicated IP addresses, which allows you to access restricted sites that use blocked content in the same way as a regular IP address.
What's the catch? All of the VPN providers we recommend have a trial period for you to try them out before you make any long-term commitment. You can see our full list of recommended VPNs here.
How can I use NordVPN? The best VPN to use with Netflix is NordVPN. Their servers are located in several countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Singapore, so you should be able to access any restricted content without being tracked by the government. If you want to watch Netflix on your PC or Mac, you can use their desktop and mobile apps.
You also need to be aware that their trial period is very short - usually only a few days - so you'll have to use it within that timeframe. How do I use NordVPN? Like other VPN providers, NordVPN also offers its users the chance to download the desktop or mobile apps. However, you also have the option to use their website directly. You will need to subscribe to their service if you decide to go this route.
It's worth noting that the price is a little higher than other VPN providers. You will also get a free 30-day trial.
You also have to be aware that the website is only available in English at the moment. Overview. NordVPN is a VPN provider that specializes in keeping its users private. You can use their service to unblock content in countries like the US and Australia, so you'll never have to worry about the government tracking you. What is the NordVPN controversy?
For years, many people have enjoyed using NordVPN to browse the Internet anonymously, which is certainly not something we all took for granted in 2025 when the service first started.
This is because in their early days, most web browsers that people used to go online were easily identifiable by their IP addresses, and with only a few exceptions, no one wanted to get into a bad, potentially dangerous situation just so they could check out an interesting website or send a few emails.
These days, thanks to VPNs, it's far harder for your browser to identify who you are on the web, so you don't need to think twice before clicking on something that seems too good to be true. Using a VPN, however, can be a bit more complicated than browsing without anonymity, and this is where NordVPN comes into play.
To give some background, when a VPN is used, two things are done: encryption and decryption. Encryption means that all of the data that gets passed from your computer to the website server you're on is encrypted. In plain English, that means the information being sent is scrambled, making it very difficult for anyone to read. And since no one will ever have access to this decrypted data, it can't be intercepted and used in ways you wouldn't like. It's safe, for instance, to communicate money online.
Decryption is the same process that works when someone makes a credit card payment online. For example, if someone goes to Google and type "buy NordVPN," a lot of money will be disbursed because that page has to be decrypted and read. In other words, as mentioned before, it's the part of the process where things like money, and potentially private and sensitive information, get transferred safely and without incident.
While encryption is always useful, not all web sites care much about your privacy, or if you're an open-source person, even want their website hosted by your personal computer (as opposed to their own data center). So, while browsing the internet without your name attached is great, it's important to use a service that protects your privacy and security as well. And now you know why NordVPN exists.
Before I tell you about how it functions, let me explain why it's different from some other services that are out there.
Is there a problem with NordVPN?
It's really odd.
There's nothing on the net about it. They've been "good" so far but we always get problems and it never has been a one time problem, we just get lots of these.
Last night for instance was the first time we actually got it. I had done a reset on my router and reset my VPS. It usually takes me awhile to setup each network device on our home network but I always just log out and back in again. I've been doing that for the past 3-4 months and have never had any problems before.
After the reset we can no longer connect to their servers and it keeps saying connection error. We've been using a NordVPN account for almost 5 years now and have never had this problem before. We've always been able to connect through the server's it was just last night that I had to disable the VPN from our router. We've contacted them and they said there is no other servers available to us at this moment and we can't use the one we're trying to use because it's in Canada.
Has anybody else had this problem with NordVPN? Anybody have any advice for us? Is it going to be the only thing we have to do when trying to use it? It really doesn't make sense, we've been using their service for 5 years and we have absolutely no problems and then this happens? It's so bad that we have to disable the VPN to even use our router! Re: ? I think I may have an idea for you. Try changing the port you are trying to access your router from. Also turn off all other services on your router (email, web, etc) so they will not be competing for the same port that VPN is using.
Try port forwarding the port you are using and see if that works. You have a great service, but it may help you in the future. Good luck.
Hi there everyone. We do apologize for the late response. We got a call from NordVPN about 12 hours ago and they said that they were going to provide us a list of ports that were open. They said that once they made the changes we would be good to go again.
