I now want to explain what is meant by graphical program. I know this sounds complicated, but the bottom line is that the graphical program controls the server. What is meant by this is that the server requires you to login with the username and password, and then it sends the username and password to the server to confirm you are who you say you are. The graphical program sends this information back to the server so the server can authorize your login.
Why do you need to make sure that the user is who they say they are? If someone wants to attack your computer, they will need to know the username and password. With a hacked or stolen username and password, they could log into your computer and then access the server. This would allow them to damage or delete files or maybe even change some settings.
Can I use a server without a graphical program? In most cases, you can use a server without a graphical program, but you will need to know the server's IP address and the port it runs on. This can be found by typing ipconfig /all in the command prompt and viewing the IPv4 Address value under the Default Gateway field.
This is the IP address of the server. To determine the port number, you need to use Google. Enter the server's IP address into the search engine, and it will display a website containing the number.
