I have a desktop connected to a tv that has a wireless connection. The desktop is on a different wifi network than the laptop I'm going to use to stream TV shows. My question is, would I be able to use a proxy VPN to get around my network's geo-blocking or does Netflix need to be on the same network?

I use NetFlix at home and have had zero problems, but as mentioned in the OP we have multiple devices on different networks at work. I've just been told the solution is to use something called "VPN" and it'll hide your location. What I don't get is why I need a VPN and if it'll work. The proxy VPN is supposed to stop the content filtering that we do at work so I don't get access to content we would like.

The above comment has to be the most useless answer on this forum. Proxy VPN would in no way solve your problem. It does indeed work with Netflix, but it only works on VPNs that do the opposite of what the proxy VPN claims to do. A "real" VPN hides your IP address, while a proxy VPN shows you the IP address of the original requestor, thus it is not a VPN.

It's probably the same issue I'm having. Netflix's streaming service is geo-blocked. I've gotten Netflix's mail out that you can get around this by using a VPN. However, they won't work with Netflix.
