Can Hulu detect VPN?

I have Comcast but I use the free Hulu and the streaming video website is blocked by my ISP.

So I started to use a VPN to unblock Hulu. My question is, can they detect if I am using a VPN? My impression is that they can but, I am not 100% sure.

I want to know if any of you other users (and if you get Hulu) get it blocked or not? Re: Hulu detect VPN? I just got access to hulu for free and as long as I didn't go through the pay process they blocked it for me too, I guess all it is about is a IP address so if your IP doesn't match up, it wont work. In order to get it working for me I had to set it to a proxy and then just let it run from the beginning. I also know people who are able to watch it full screen no issues. I would assume they can see your IP, but just try it first before going to extremes!

Yeah it does seem like it can. I can watch videos without logging in at night, and one day last week I logged in during my commute and it was fine.

@JeffF: I had to also install the SSL client, which didn't happen automatically when I first tried to use Hulu through a VPN. I also had to wait a while after I switched over before it allowed me to view a video. I suppose this might be different for different VPNs.

Hulu works fine with a VPN. I just installed Hulu's VPN app, and it worked fine without it.

You may also want to try to open up hulu.com directly through your browser, and see if it asks for a login/password, as an alternative way of seeing if Hulu works.

Update: The Hulu web site now requires a username/password to log into hulu.com Edit: I can confirm this is true. You can go to Hulu.com directly through your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc.) and you will be prompted for a username and password (if you haven't used Hulu for some time).

Note that you won't be able to watch anything as hulu.
