What happened to Surfshark VPN?

Is Surfshark a bad VPN?

We reviewed Surfshark on the 1st January 2025.

You've seen our results from this time - it scores an 85% so far but we think there's still room for improvement. What do you think?

If you are interested in the details of the way this VPN was tested, you can read how to test a VPN in the Testing a VPN Guide. There you'll also find details of all the devices we used and the programs they're running under.

Our Surfshark review comes in two parts: firstly we'll look at its technical specifications and what options it includes before we analyse the product itself. In the second part we will look at the performance of Surfshark on our various test protocols to show you how it fared over 3 years, 5 months and 24 days (since we first published our Surfshark review). This is important because it highlights where there is still room for improvement and can help you judge if the improvements are in fact real.

Surfshark comes with some nice extras that add extra functionality to the VPN and let you use it outside the standard VPN Mode of operation. In addition to the normal VPN functions you'll also find that it has: Port Forwarding - you can send and receive traffic to ports on your PC at no extra cost and as you travel there is no need for a laptop / router / switch etc to forward your ports for you! - you can send and receive traffic to ports on your PC at no extra cost and as you travel there is no need for a laptop / router / switch etc to forward your ports for you! Port Triggering - it uses a different method to port forwarding called Port Triggering and it doesn't require you to set up a different port, it just adds port 81 to the traffic sent and received through the VPN and doesn't require any additional configuration!

Is Surfshark down right now?

I went to surfshark and tried to login, but it was down.

I then tried to connect to the cloud service directly via HTTP instead of the GUI client and found the same thing. It is not responding. How do I get to access the cloud service without the GUI client?

If you are connected to your server, try clearing your browser's cookies and cache then reloading the page in the browser. If the browser's still not working, I'd double check your proxy settings. Also, can you ping surfshark.com or surfshark. And try from a different location.

I can ping and load the page, but I need the gui client to do some stuff. Can I still use the browser to send emails, for example? If it's down, we can't be doing any of our services and you might be able to get an idea as to why it's down by going to < - it should show if it's up or not. In the meantime, please let me know if you've any problems with the API or if the API itself works. It seems to be working now. I just used the browser, however. I didn't clear the browser's cache.

I then found out that Surfshark is incompatible with Win98 SE. Now, there are only a couple of people who are still running Win98 SE and they are using Surfshark. One of them has gotten an update from SurfsHark but it still does not work with him.

One of the users in the thread said that she upgraded her computer from Win98 to Win98 SE and the Surfshark worked. I am wondering what the difference between the two is.

Re: Why is Surfshark not working? Are you sure it's the same thing? I have a friend that used to use Surfshark, but then switched to Giganew and since then it's been working fine. The only problem I've had was when I moved to the new house and was without internet for a couple of days.

Well, it is the same person.

What happened to Surfshark VPN?

In June 2025, Surfshark launched a new website and released the Surfshark VPN app on the Google Play Store.

However, they seem to have vanished soon after. They don't have a website anymore, they're no longer listed on Google Play, and there's no longer a way to download the Surfshark VPN app. Even the Android version of the Surfshark website is gone. This blog post shows how you can still get Surfshark VPN.

Surfshark VPN was a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. You could use it to access blocked websites and services such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, and many other streaming sites. It also worked as a proxy to get around geographic restrictions in online games.

Surfshark VPN had a good reputation for its speed and reliability. There were a lot of complaints about it shutting down, but after a few months of using it, I was able to confirm that the service was really fast and reliable.

This blog post shows you how you can still use Surfshark VPN. In addition to this blog post, there's a separate guide about how to get Surfshark VPN on iOS and Windows.

How can I use Surfshark VPN? You can use Surfshark VPN on your computer, phone, or tablet. It's completely free. You can get Surfshark VPN on the Google Play Store.

As of this blog post, Surfshark VPN is no longer available for download. However, you can still use it for free! Surfshark VPN works by turning your device into a VPN server. It creates a secure tunnel between your device and the VPN servers. Then, it routes all your traffic through the VPN servers.

To turn your device into a VPN server, you need to download the Surfshark VPN app. When the app launches, you need to tap Enable VPN.

After enabling the VPN, the Surfshark VPN app will ask you to connect to a VPN server. Surfshark recommends connecting to their servers in the United States.

If you're connected to a public WiFi network, you might be asked to join a network.
