However, I am curious to find out if the developers actually earn money from their great work? They are giving away all the source codes and the network for free. So, how does this work?

What I mean by open source is not just free of charge but free of profit. Why is OpenVPN free? The network itself is free of cost and the only reason it's not free of charge is because they have ads which are only a few dollars. The ads aren't a big problem but I did find it to be annoying.

Also, there are other ways for people to make money. There are also plenty of places to earn money.

However, with OpenVPN, they give all of the source code and the network away for free. Even if people want to earn some money with OpenVPN, it should be a very limited amount. It just doesn't feel right that you could earn big amounts of money from using an open source network.

So, how is OpenVPN's profit model? How does it actually make money? 1) Premium Features. One of the best ways to earn money with OpenVPN is to have premium features. You can sell your own personal network or you can charge more to companies who would want to use your network. This allows you to make profits from using OpenVPN. You just have to make sure that you can provide good security for your users.

Even with their free version of OpenVPN, you can still charge a fee. They allow you to customize the network which most likely means you can charge more than the free version of OpenVPN.

2) Donations. They don't mention it directly, but the community is run by donations. If you donate, you might be able to support the development of OpenVPN and even get premium features.

3) Businesses. Like I mentioned earlier, you can use OpenVPN to provide a service or for business. If you have a business that uses OpenVPN, you can provide access to all the sites you don't want your regular users to be able to access.
