What is the incoming username for Gmail?

I currently use Gmail as a "sign-in" mechanism for my other online accounts, and I'm curious how I can setup a "sign-in" method for my email address.

As I understand it, the "sign-in" mechanism for Gmail is based on your Google account, but this "Google Account" is only used to keep track of my mail and my various contacts (no other account access), while I use a different account (that I have setup in the Google Web interface) for all other accounts and services. That is, my main Gmail account is not tied to any other Google service. So when I change accounts, I can keep the same email address because of my Google Account (or the specific Google Account), but any other accounts that I want to share my email address with would be tied to my main Gmail account. So what is the username/email address for my main Gmail account? Or are you simply supposed to leave the "sign-in" option blank in the various other web services and just use the default one for your Gmail account (ie "gmail@gmail.com").

I ask because I'm not sure what the "next username" will be for my email address if I don't choose anything, and there are several important online services that would require me to know my incoming username for this other email address (not my current one). You need to set up two separate GMail accounts. One for personal emails and one for work related.

The email address you use for work needs to be different from the one you use for personal. But to use a different address for work you need to create a second account with a different email address.

What is the server name for Gmail?

The one I got is mail.

I've got to give this thumbs up to the creators of The Sims 3. The graphics are awesome and the game play is the best I have ever played in a game of this type. The ability to create your own Sims is a great feature, although creating an adult Sim character is very difficult because they don't have a voice.

The Sims 2 (the first one I played) had this wonderful ability to pick a different color for each Sim. Now, I guess you can still do this in the sims 2 but they all have the same hair color.

I think that's the domain name in /etc/hostname. but it is not your username, it is the username of your incoming mail account. i'm sorry, i'll make it more specific. the hostname is my.com Guest82948: then you'd need to find out your email settings on your mail server and tell us those. how do I find that?
