Does Privoxy work with https?
This is a discussion on Privoxy works with https?
Within the Security News / Patch Topics forums, part of the Tech Talk category; Question: Privoxy works with https? Hi all. I'm trying to set up a new . I'm trying to set up a new web site that has to be accessible by SSL and I'm looking for a proxy that works with SSL. In my research I've come across the name "Privoxy", but am having trouble finding any information on this.
If I understand correctly, Privoxy works as a proxy, such that the content is passed through the proxy, and then the proxy passes it on to the destination. Is this correct? I've been looking at my web browser (IE) and I can't see a difference between http and https. Am I understanding privoxy correctly? Is there a way to configure privoxy so it would not intercept https traffic? Thanks in advance! "What makes you think you're so smart?" - Me. "In the name of the internet, stop living your life in public." - My husband Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the information. It seems like I've come across a couple of posts on google regarding these issues, but nothing definitive. I've noticed that some sites redirect from http to https, and some don't. This may have something to do with what you're saying about http vs.
The problem I'm having is trying to find out how to configure privoxy to not intercept https traffic." - My husband Thank you very much for your reply! I was able to find a pretty good thread on it at. I think you have a misunderstanding of how a proxy works. Privoxy is an HTTP proxy. It does not intercept HTTPS connections.
That said, if you are unable to switch to using HTTPS, then you may have a problem with your web server configuration or with your browser. If you are seeing an error message like "Mixed Content: The page at
Is Privoxy free?
You can try out the trial version of Privoxy for free by downloading it at It will install a version of the software, and then close the installer. It will open a browser window, and load a page. If you don't have an account with the site, it will ask for your email address and username. When the page has loaded, a test page should appear in the browser. If you are satisfied that it does what you want, register for a free account. You can then use it for a limited time period - 30 days from the registration date.
The software is not free. But you can try it out without signing up for a full account. I think this will be useful to a lot of people, and is great to know it is possible.
Comments (14). I do not see how this is any more than a commercial site that will not give your money back. For them to take a 30 day trial is like asking a retailer to give you a loan on a product that you can either buy or return. The only reason they don't just go ahead and list the software on their own website and sell it is because it is free to the end user.
In their terms and conditions it states You will be able to use it for 30 days or longer if you register and confirm your acceptance of the terms and conditions. So even if you don't register, you have signed away rights to return or request a refund for the full version. It's only a trial but it's not free. There's nothing in the terms and conditions that says that you get a refund if you don't want to register and have the time limit to use it.
If you are not happy with the service after 30 days they can turn off your account. So you agree to the terms and conditions and sign up for an account, then you can run it for a 30 day period. After that they can turn off your account and that is what happens here. Even if you don't sign up for a full account.
But to answer your question Can I try Privoxy for free? yes you can.
