The first is, it's more cost effective because the app is only loaded one device (for now). The second is, I could just have my whole family download the app and use it at the same time and not be the sole user. The third reason is, I can do some stuff in this project I have yet to do that the other two reasons let me do, but I think they will help even more. For example, if they can connect with the app via messaging the family can text each other and see what we are seeing. It also has a feature that lets them know which direction of your map you are going to.

The point that is least apparent is the ability for you to have multiple users (and therefore possibly multiple devices) access a map at once as long as they share data in real-time - ie you dont need to send them updates but all the info gets sent to them On the second point; you cant upload a separate one for a family then another for just your family - they'll want one to reflect either your own or the whole family. I can see a lot of things in the future that this will become relevant

But yes, I think the in-app purchases model is more in line with how most apps are sold nowadays. Solo has gotten me some new business. I haven't even put any money into ads yet, so I'm not sure how many visitors I'll have.

That's awesome that the solo app is doing so well. You've done a great job of making the app. You might consider going back and removing those features that aren't supported anymore, or offering a few free features instead. Like in-app purchases, etc.

I had a similar dilemma at first, but after seeing my sales skyrocket because of it, I've found that they have. I make less money now than before (due to less selling) but my profit margin is larger, and I'm able to support myself through it. It's something I recommend to every solo developer out there, and I'm glad you found a way to use it in your own business.
