What is the NordVPN controversy?

And now there is one to add to the list of VPN controversies.

The controversy comes from the NordVPN website and how they advertise their products. In fact, most of the complaints and reviews I've read online do seem to focus on the advertising.

One thing they don't make it obvious though, is that their price will automatically add 25% VAT and an extra 20% VAT in your bank. I'm assuming that many people using NordVPN won't be familiar with these taxes. Most people are pretty lucky and rarely have to pay any VAT so it can be a lot to absorb.

In my opinion NordVPN is a service worth paying for, so when you open your accounts, you will want to check that this isn't going to be a financial disaster. NordVPN are really good at getting their money back. They do refund money on the majority of cases if customers get in trouble. That is because they understand the importance of trust and that VPNs shouldn't be treated as gambling tools.

What about being paid to write a review? As I mentioned earlier, there is a problem with the advertising on their website. The website itself doesn't even mention how much VAT you'll have to pay if you sign up.

It's not a problem for me because I live in the UK and normally use 300 a month in credit/debit cards just to maintain a basic account here. But, it can be a big hit for those living in France or elsewhere where these costs would add up quickly.

It's fair to say that you should be fully aware of what you are signing up for if you think that you'll get value from NordVPN. Who are the best NordVPN alternatives?
