How to set up remote access to a server?

I want to set up remote access to a dedicated server.

What files should I download? What commands should I use? What is the easiest, user friendly, way of doing it? I need a simple and good way to do this and a working example. How do I install ssh? Is there anyway to get the public key without logging on to the remote server? How do I make that possible? How should I do this? Install openssh. SSH is available on many server installations. If there's no SSH server available, look in to your distribution's package list for "ssh".
