Is Browsec VPN safe or not?
We take a look at a VPN which may or may not be safe. With more and more of us getting behind the web of lies in the dark, it's vital that when you use the internet, you're as protected as possible. That's why we are investigating Browsec, a VPN service, and to determine if it's worth trying before you buy one.
What is a VPN? Firstly, a VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, so this is a network that encrypts your traffic making sure your ISP cannot see it (not that they will mind seeing it anyway). It then takes that stream and sends it over the web. This is what makes browsing safe when using the internet through the VPN: there are no logs made of your activity and therefore if someone wanted to they could not see anything from your use of the internet even if you were doing illegal things like watching a site with nudity.
A VPN also hides your IP, IP stands for Internet Protocol. No, they don't mean you're stupid, they are what gives your computer information. Your address, the site you're visiting, your location etc. An IP address is normally used by the websites you visit and can potentially lead to personal information being leaked, hence the need to hide them with a VPN.
This is pretty confusing right? Let's make it simple: a VPN uses encryption to make your information and data secure on the way to and from your device/computer. That way if anyone wanted to spy on your data and use it to their advantage they would need to intercept and decrypt your traffic, which is difficult, especially without physically tapping your device.
How does it work? Using a VPN is relatively easy. You either use a dedicated client or you find one online that uses a browser based approach. It isn't necessarily free (often you have to give money) but if you're willing to use adverts to pay, a good service is often very cheap.
We found one that offers free browsing called SurfEasy, so this is how it works, you get a number of different protocols that can be selected, usually two (L2TP and OpenVPN) that will get your traffic encrypted and then delivered to the VPN provider, which then decrypts your traffic and sends it on its way.
How much does Browsec cost?
It depends how much time you're prepared to spend there. If it's just a little pocket of time, it would cost about 12p or 20p, plus. The time and petrol going there, coming back, and waiting. (On a day trip, a 30 minute drive could be over 20 in time and petrol.) If you're prepared to dedicate a bit of time, it will definitely add up. There are various reports that it can be anywhere from the. Equivalent of a couple of day's hard work, to a full-time job. Some say it's not profitable unless you're an expert, in which case it. Would probably take something approaching a year's salary. But those same people don't seem to want to spend a year of their. Own time on it, and instead choose to pay someone else to do it for. Them - but who wants to pay someone else in order to learn an important. Part of their job? It appears as if it's getting more popular than ever, so I assume that many people don't really know where to go. At face value it's an excellent idea. However, like anything that gets too popular - it becomes increasingly impersonal. People may lose some of the feeling of community. Those that are part of the team now, may not recognise their home from. Their visit - even though they'll still know exactly what a certain tree. Is, and which part of the woods is considered to be the best bit. When it does appear that the project is dying out, the problem will be. Relegated once again to something less organised, which could lead to. The next cycle of success, and ultimately ruin it all once again. Browsec is a volunteer organisation. Everyone has a different contribution to make, and everybody is able to have an influence on the direction. We do not take in money - we rely solely on funding from people like. You to get up and running. If weren't financially supported, it would never happen. So, it really does depend on how much you can donate. If you can put 5 or 20 into this idea - thank you very much. It really does help with the costs. If you can't donate at all - then do whatever you can in your life to ensure that it doesn't come to anything.
