How do I use built in VPN on Windows?

How do I use built in VPN on Windows?

I'm currently using a router as my wireless access point (AP) and have configured my computer to use it. This seems to be working fine. However, I would like to have an extra layer of security using a VPN. I currently have no way to do this and I don't want to start buying new equipment as I'm very limited by how much cash I have.

How can I configure my router (it's a ZyXEL NBG-520v) to allow me to use a VPN? I've done a bit of research but it's all a bit outdated. The reason for wanting to do this is to be able to use a VPN when at home or in public places and be able to connect to the Internet without my IP address being known. Also, I'm not sure I have any other options as to how I can have a secure connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance for your help! P.S. I'm pretty new to this area so please go easy on me!

I think you're just going to have to buy a device that'll do what you want. If you want to set up a vpn on your wireless router (assuming you have one) then I think you'll have to run some sort of client on your desktop to allow it to be connected to your router (perhaps through a program called 'router console') then you'll need to open up your router settings and allow it to connect to your desktop.

I'm sure there's other options but that's the only thing I can think off the top of my head. If you're looking for a free vpn program then I'm sure there's one that does what you want. I haven't used any myself but I think I've read about some free ones.

Another option would be to use some software (eg I think the windows version is called 'pptp') that allows you to run a VPN server on your PC (for example, I think there's an alternative client for windows that comes with a server built in).

Here are a few examples: VPN-connect (Free). Using a VPN service called VPN-connect, you can connect to a server of your choice in order to make your computer's IP address look like a different IP address on the internet. You can download VPN-connect here. Open your web browser and search for VPN-connect on the browser's search bar. Select your location and click on Login. On the next page, you will be asked to add a new server to your list. Enter the name of the server and click on Add.

Select the desired server from the list and click on Connect. Using this service, you can choose from hundreds of servers around the world and connect to any of them.
