What is the Family Safety app for laptops?

Is Windows Family Safety free?

One of the questions I get from readers is, "Is Family Safety free?

" I don't believe it is for a number of reasons. First, it isn't free in any sense of the word. If you take the time to read the fine print, you'll find that Microsoft charges for "support" that includes phone support, technical support, and the ability to escalate issues to Microsoft executives.00 each year, plus you'll get a couple of free features.

It's also not free in the sense that Family Safety will nag you and nag you. In fact, you can expect to receive five messages per day from the Family Safety program. I've always said that these messages are just a way for Microsoft to sell you additional software. The good news is that you can turn them off. However, after I decided to do that, I found out that the same messages were popping up in my "Notifications" program, which means I could have avoided the nagging all along. You should be able to control your notifications.

What about all the other people who don't want to be bothered? It's easy to say, "Oh, well, they shouldn't have used Windows 10." But, think about it, would you want to upgrade from a Windows 8 to a Windows 10? Let's face it, Windows 10 looks just like Windows 8, so what's the difference? That's not a question that can be answered. The answer is that Microsoft has been pushing you toward the upgrade for years now. They even use the same marketing tactics to nag you into thinking you need to upgrade.

I also don't believe that the family safety program is truly free. You can see what I mean by looking at the website. The page is very simple, it only takes a few minutes to review. As you review the page, you'll see that it is designed to sell you more software. At the bottom of the page, it shows you more software, as if that wasn't enough.

It's true that you can upgrade Family Safety to the Gold or Ultimate version for a fee, but is it worth it? It's definitely worth it to me. My family is covered for five years under the Gold version.

Can I use Microsoft Family Safety on Windows 11?

I am trying to decide between using Microsoft Family Safety or using Windows Defender Offline on my Windows 11 machine, and I would like to know what other people's experiences have been with these programs.

Microsoft Family Safety has seemed to be very useful in the past, especially when it comes to children playing games or watching TV shows or movies on the PC. However, Windows Defender Offline (Windows Defender as a standalone app) is free, and it has been good for me on my Windows 8. I don't see why Microsoft Family Safety shouldn't be as effective on Windows 11, but I'm not sure. Is anyone else using both of these?

Replies to This Discussion. Microsoft Family Safety was really only useful if you used it as a parent/child gate. It could also be useful in monitoring when others on your home network could have access to your PC. On Windows 10, Microsoft's new parental controls work better.

Windows Defender Offline used to have several options for security scans on my machines. There's a lot less need to use it now.

I have done both. For years I had a subscription to their tech support and also Microsoft Family Safety; but the latter, while I use it to control my kids PC and it works great. However when it comes to my own machine it fails. Sometimes the control panel hangs and doesn't respond. And if I have a game on my machine that gets hot it shuts off the game and won't let me start it up again unless I completely reboot my machine.

With Defender it was working much better but the last 2 machines I have had problems with it not working with them when they get hot. So I just keep Windows Defender on my system now; and I've not had an issue. Also there is also an option for Microsoft Family Safety called Windows Internet Explorer which will allow you to control your kids web browser by blocking web sites; however I found that if a person organization I do business with does not allow me to filter out their sites on my PC, they will not be able to do business with me if they haven't upgraded to the new browser. What Windows Internet Explorer does, however, is works well when you're in school or work and you want to avoid what your students or co-workers might be doing on the net.

What is the Family Safety app for laptops?

Families across the nation are using the Family Safety app to help keep kids safe.

When it comes to children, there's little more important than safety. However, it isn't enough to just teach kids about responsible behavior. In a home full of distractions -- TV, iPad, cell phone, etc. - it can be hard to keep them on track.

The new Family Safety app is an all-in-one safety and behavior modification app. Its purpose is to help you monitor your child's online activities and screen time while teaching him/her the difference between good and bad choices. You can set parameters for the entire family and monitor your child's app usage with daily reports. If you'd like a one-stop-shop for all things behavior and technology, check out the Family Safety app.

Here's what makes the Family Safety app great for families: Control everything and anything. All activity will be viewed by the Parents with easy-to-read reports and charts for each person's usage on the device. Your child's daily phone usage can be set up to allow access in just a few clicks. Family members can set different profiles to view in-app activity of each other without going through the whole process each time they visit each other's apps. Create boundaries for each user or all at once. Parents may define a schedule with limits on activities such as no internet access after a certain time or a limit on the amount of computer time allowed during a week. If you know who might have an issue over a specific app -- for example, playing with matches or a knife -- you can set that as a parental control. Parent's app activity is visible to everyone else within the family. Every action that is taken in the app will be viewable to all Family members. Monitor and log phone call, voice messages, and email messages. Record and review call and voice messages. All call logs will be shared for review.

Log incoming emails and read them through the app to view the sender, read the message and decide if you want to call, forward or reply. Track and monitor online activities. See how much time kids spend on their mobile devices, which apps, and the length of time spent on various apps.
