So what exactly is wireshark? Wireshark is a network protocol analyzer that works by reading all the data sent across a network and reassembling it. By doing so, it can provide information on any traffic that goes over a network interface. For example, it's useful for understanding what web servers are actually sending out in response to requests from websites, or understanding how a botnet is controlling your devices. In short, it's an extremely powerful tool.

Wireshark is also free to use, but you do have to register to use it and then pay a monthly subscription fee. This can be a very lucrative choice if you have a large number of employees who need to work together.

A lot of people use a tool like this to monitor the networks and traffic of their own workplace. They are interested in understanding what the traffic is like on their company's network, and if they choose Wireshark they'll be able to see exactly how much traffic goes through their network in a day.

In this situation, Wireshark is really excellent, as it will tell you all the traffic that goes through your network, and what kind of protocols are going through it. So if you work in a company that has several different internal systems, and you're interested in monitoring what is going through those different systems, you could choose Wireshark.

If you don't work in a company with a few different systems, it's likely that you won't need Wireshark, because it's mostly used by IT professionals.

Can you download Wireshark on Windows 11?

I had some issues on 11.

What works is the wireshark in Windows Live Essentials. I can download it and analyze data from the LAN. How about when we put our network card in monitor mode? Do we still have the ability to take a sniff?

We should have the ability to capture all the broadcast/inter-network packets. If we can capture these then the issue may be solved by changing the gateway to a new DNS address or disabling broadcast through the device manager. I'm not 100% sure if that would work. But it's worth trying.

It's easy to get Wireshark set up on Win 8 to monitor only, so that will give you the ability to capture all traffic sent from and to the target computer(s) without interfering with traffic sent from other devices connected to the same network. Thanks for the tip @Jc12301. However, the router is an IPsec device and we do have other machines connected, we're just trying to figure out what changed with the current firmware.
