Why is a firewall blocking my Spotify?
Firewalls often block applications or protocols in order to protect home networks. When your network or Wi-Fi router connects to a Wi-Fi network, it acts as an open book for your home network. That means if a hacker has access to your network or router, they can easily control your computers with your web browser. Using a firewall protects your network from attack by blocking outbound connections.
Spotify uses an outbound open connection between your computer and Spotify servers, which can be a big problem if you are on a home network. Therefore, your home router might have a firewall setting that is blocking Spotify connections by default. Spotify should be open and available on your network so you don't need to click on an INSTALL button. This was the way that most people accessed the service in the past, so this setting will be set to block some outbound connections out of safety.
This guide shows how to enable Spotify's outbound connection on your home network. Your home router will use NAT to protect your network and act as an open book. First, try disabling your home router's firewall. To do this, be sure to remove or change any firewall rules that are preventing the connection. If you are not sure how to disable a firewall, see our guide below.
How to disable the firewall on your home router. To disable the firewall on your router, perform the following steps: You need to reach either the admin mode or another place on the router. Tap WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) on the router to enter the admin mode, if needed. If it is not on the router, you may need Log In Connect to the router by your computer. (A list of WiFi networks on the router will appear).
Tap on the logo that opens the list of available networks in the admin mode, then locate the wireless network name that corresponds with your home connection. Tap on the Network Settings icon.
You can change your home router's IP address (and potentially change it to something else for security reasons) by changing the DHCP server to Select none. This will turn off the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service. Your home router would still be home network, but you would be able to access it by its IP address.
How do I allow Spotify to allow firewall?
Recommended Posts. It's only under Windows. My windows pc is behind a firewall on a home network. I can't use Spotify to stream music from my phone through the same firewall. Spotify can't complete the handshake with my pc. So, how do I enable the firewall so Spotify can make an open connection between my phone and my pc?
The pc firewall is Win 7 and I'm using a Verizon smartphone. The firewall uses Windows Defender.
Share this post. Link to post. Share on other sites. Well, as I said in the question, it's only under Windows. I tried installing Windows 7 and the firewall on my phone, but Spotify isn't installed on my phone. I tried to follow the instructions on the Spotify website, but they're for Windows and I'm a Mac user.
Maybe someone else has an idea? I'm sort of stuck. I'm not even sure if this is possible.
Sorry for the newb questions, but this is my first post on a forum. Usually it's because Spotify is not being allowed by the firewall on your PC. This would be why all your attempts at connecting to Spotify have failed.
Red. What makes you believe that there is a firewall on your Windows PC? From your response, it sounds like you're trying to connect to your PC from a public place such as a coffee shop, and your PC is a portable device. What you need to do is turn off "private networking" on your computer. Then and only then, will you be able to connect using your PC, as it will be able to send the data to your phone.
And in the case of needing to have your PC on a closed network, you should setup your router to forward port 80, for the PC. When that's set, your router will forward traffic to your PC for Internet traffic.
I don't have a Windows PC (I will consider getting one for the firewall issue) but for the above quote, it sounds like you're using a PC in public place such as a coffee shop. In that case, it sounds like the PC is configured for private networking and you won't be able to use it to stream music from your phone.

Does Spotify work with proxy?
I changed the music player to Spotify and it works much better than it was before. I had another issue, but I solved that one too. But I'm not sure if my solution was correct, or not.
My old music includes music from my brother, and some music from a friend of mine. I have quite a few songs that I don't want to share, but I want to have my music back. I had a problem with my brother, he would change the music on his computer and I would download his music and he would change it back. I figured out that I could change the music player back to the default music player and that fixed the problem.
But now I have another problem. I use a proxy to my university, that I can use for most of my programs. But Spotify doesn't work with that proxy, I can't even start the app. It keeps saying "Connecting to the Spotify Beta service." and it just sits there. But if I'm using a different proxy, it works just fine.
I'm quite new to this, I have a bit of knowledge of computers, but I don't know how to solve this problem. I assume that all I have to do is to change the proxy Spotify is using, but how do I do that? Go to the Spotify app settings and check if "Enable Offline Mode" is enabled. If it is, disable it. Then the app should work again.
I had the same problem with my university proxy.
